Popular speaker Hank Smith says the inspiration for this talk came when his five-year-old daughter announced that she has a boyfriend! Hank was so shocked that the only thing he could think to say was, “What’s his name?” His daughter answered that she didn’t know but she was sure he likes her because he chases her at recess and tries to kiss her! At this point, Hank, ever the protective parent, tried to remain calm and said, “You have to break up with him.” Her response was: “What does that mean?”
In this entertaining and inspirational talk, Brother Smith explains the importance of “breaking up” with the things of the world that keep us from getting closer to the Savior. For some people these things may be TV shows or other media that offends the Spirit. For others it may be an unhealthy relationship or obsessive comparisons and competitions. Using his trademark humor and stories, Brother Smith teaches us to “lay aside the things of this world, and seek for the things of a better” (D&C 25:10). Break Up With the World is a talk youth will relate to and the whole family will enjoy.

About the Author
Hank Smith teaching in the Religious Education Department at BYU and is a favorite speaker for Especially for Youth, Best of Especially for Youth, and BYU Education Week. Hank and his wife, Sara, were both born and raised in St. George, Utah. They are the parents of one daughter and two sons. Brother Smith enjoys running marathons and eating lots and lots of ice cream (which is why he runs marathons). More than anything else, he loves being at home spending all day with his wife and children.

I purchased Hank Smith's, Be Who You Are around Christmas time, the next time I was at Deseret Book I purchased the remainder of his CD's. Our family really enjoys the talks. Additionally, I am the Young Men's President in our ward; we listen to these CD's anytime we are traveling. The YM enjoy the CD's as much as the leaders. Highly Recommended!

Hanging out in Seagull Book I heard a blurp of this great CD. I bought it on the spot and have listened to it over and over. I love that my kids can hear this and get great values (in this day and age) taught to them while laughing. We laughed for the entire CD (every time we listen to it). We will be buying more CD's from Brother Smith~

I was buying books at seagull book-and the girl asked if I would be interested in a hank smith cd. my husband and i had been inactive for about 3 years and were just coming back around so i thought for sure this is going to have an uplifting message what better thing to have playing in the car! Hank Smith's talks are obviously geared towards the youth -but I am here to tell you-listen to them anyway-his talks literally jump started our way back to the church-i have never felt the spirit so strongly while side splitting laughing at the same time-my kids who's ages are 3,6, and 8 love him as well-i look forward to a chance to meet him in person and tell him thank you

I am an employee at the Seagull Book in Layton and one of our biggest sellers is anything by Hank Smith. Hank sells himself and every time our customers hear the CD's playing overhead, they ask "who is this?" And usually they end up walking out with a CD. As a mom of 4 kids ranging in ages from 16-5, we ALL agree Hank is our "go-to" CD of choice whenever we drive anywhere. My husband even took this one in his carpool and all the guys were cracking up. I hope Hank knows how fabulous and talented he is and that he has a way of sending such great messages to families of all ages. I have no problem recommending ANY of Hank's CD's...a worthy investment that we have listened to dozens and dozens of times.

Hank Smith just gets better and better! Gospel & scriptural insights are presented in a very humorous and thought provoking way. This spiritual message is not only for youth, but relevant to any age. I've listened to it many times and it never gets old! "Break up" is fantastic!... And YES! I DID break up with something! Keep making CD's Hank! You're doing a LOT of good!

I got this for my son when he finished the eighth grade last year. We listened to it together as a family in the car, (great trip "music") The kids all cracked up over and over again and asked to hear it again. We each have taken something a little different from it, and YES I did break up with something. :o) Hank manages to extend a great message as well as a challenge in a way that kids and adults alike can relate to and make a part of our lives. Thank you Hank!!
