  • About the Author

The 360 members of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir represent men and women from many different backgrounds and professions and range in age from 25 to 60. They reflect a medley of unique lives and experiences and are brought together by their love for singing and their faith. Their incomparable voices are the common chord that unites to form the choral group known all over the world as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir originated in the mid-19th century in Salt Lake City. As the Latter-day Saints moved west, Church President Brigham Young included musicians among members of the advance parties. Consequently, a small choir first sang for a conference of the Church in the Salt Lake Valley on August 22, 1847, just 29 days after the first group arrived. The origins of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir may be found in the desire and commitment of early converts to include appropriate music in both sacred and secular events.

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir has appeared at 13 world’s fairs and expositions, performed at the inaugurations of five U.S. presidents, and sung for numerous worldwide telecasts and special events. Five of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s recordings have achieved “gold record” and two have achieved “platinum record” status. The most popular was the Grammy-Award-winning 1959 release of “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” with the Philadelphia Orchestra.

I have always enjoyed the Tabernacle Choir's CDs. This one is exceptionally amazing. My husband and I listen continually. My only wish is that it were sold in bulk so I could use it like a pass along card!! The Spirit is so strong and touching to my husband and I as we listen continually and feel it would be a fantastic missionary tool. The music is a great blessing in this time in our world.

All my favorites on one CD!

I received my copy of Called to Serve back in March along with a couple of other CD's. I play it in the car as I go to and from work, and although I occasionally swap it out for another CD, it's my FAVORITE. We had Stake Conference last weekend and I noticed that I knew some of the songs the choir sang only because they were on this CD and I'd listened to it so much.

    brings back memories

This recordeing brings back many memories of my mission. The songs are so awsome anyway but when you have been on a mission, they just seem to have a fonder memory and the experiences comes back to memory. Great listening.

First of all, this is an absolutely amazing CD. It has all the perfect songs and arrangements that you can ask for (Called to Serve is my favourite). The only thing with this CD is that if you're a true Mormon Tab fan (like myself), then you would already have quite a few of the songs from previous CDs. Its still worth it though especially for the first hymn Called to Serve so go ahead and buy it!!! Blessings from Jamaica

I bought this CD for my son who is leaving on his mission soon. He loved the CD and so did I. It has helped him prepare for his mission by bringing the spirit into our home. He has come closer to the spirit by listening to it. The Tabernacle Choir is wonderful!

Bound to motivate a generation of missionaries.

Got the CD last night. Played it for the local elders today. It was amazing to watch them glow as they listened to 'Called to Serve' and 'I'll Go Where You Want Me to Go.' , Got the same goose bumps as being at the MTC and hearing the missionaries sing 'Called to Serve' there. Where was this CD when I was on my mission? , I finally found the CD to send to the members in my mission country. I have been waiting to send them a CD of favorite hymns that they would all recognize.

The Best CD I've Ever Heard By A Choir Any where.

by  Herb  -   reviewed on  December 12, 2008

I was traveling in the Easteren Sierras and decided to test my trucks Bose speakers for the first time with my new CD, Called To Serve. I have many Mormon Tabernacle Choir CDS and tapes, but, this is the best ever. In my Christmas Newsletter I wrote,On a recent trip Observiing the magnificent works of nature in the Sierras and hearing The Best Choir In The World was beyond my description of correct words in my vocabulary. It was the best choir and arrangement I've ever heard and a awesome experience that I'll never forget. Thank you Choir and Orchestra you made my vacation the best ever. Herb.

    I love MOTAB!

by  Rachel  -   reviewed on  October 23, 2008

I absolutely love the Mormon Tabernacle Choir-we have so many of their CDs in our home and play them so frequently that our 2 and 4 year old know all the words, which is way cute when the songs are more obscure (especially selections from the Messiah). This CD has some great songs on it, and they have become family favorites!

    great product
