About the Author
Steven Sharp Nelson is a pioneer in “cello-percussion”—an alternative performance method that combines traditional, lyrical cello techniques and unconventional pizzicato and percussive technique. He began studying cello at age 8, percussion at age 12 and guitar at age 17. He has invented a new method of playing the cello that combines elements learned from each of these instruments. He obtained a degree in music from the University of Utah School of Music, graduating in 2002.
Nelson’s true cello career began when he was 15. He was recruited by Peter Breinholt to arrange string parts and perform with Breinholt’s band, Big Parade. Since then he has recorded on over 100 different albums ranging from folk & bluegrass to hip hop. He has also made his way as a solo artist. His first album Sacred Cello (2006) was atop the Billboard Charts. He has since two more solo albums that have also received significant acclaim (Tender Mercies, 2008 and Christmas Cello, 2010)
Nelson is well known for his collaborations with pianist Jon Schmidt as The Piano Guys – most particularly in their mash-up arrangement of Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” and Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida,” a YouTube sensation. Schmidt and Nelson perform regularly together throughout the United States and the world.

I purchased this just after Christmas with the intention of saving it as a gift for next Christmas. I was curious though and opted to listen to it and try it out. I was hooked, and I am still listening to this beautiful CD, even though the season has passed. I love the arrangements of all the songs. I was skeptical of "Nearer My God to Thee" as a Christmas song, but it was beautifully done and I love it. This album is definitely now my favorite Christmas music and one of my most cherished CDs. I love how it is so peaceful and inspiring and different from other Christmas selections. I didn't find anything to be overdone or overly dramatic as instrumentals can be sometimes. Every song was simple yet purposeful and intricate in its expression. I am definitely going to be purchasing some copies for family this coming Christmas.
Beautifully done!

Absolutely beautiful! My new favorite Christmas CD! Not may people do Oh Come, Oh Come Emmanuel, but it has always been one of my favorites. Steven Sharp Nelson's arrangement is fabulous. Great job!

Steven Sharp Nelson has an extraordinary way of taking a song you've heard on countless occasions and reinventing it. We Three Kings, Carol of the Bells, and Nearer My God to Thee are just a few examples from the CD. This is a great addition to your Christmas collection!
