About the Author
Kenneth L. Alford, an associate professor of Church history and doctrine at BYU, served as an active-duty US Army officer for twenty-nine years, retiring with the rank of colonel. He has taught at the United States Military Academy at West Point and at the National Defense University in Washington, DC. He received a PhD from George Mason University. Ken and his wife, Sherilee, have four children.

This is an impressive and exciting scholarly work that fills an important gap in Civil War history. Here at National Defense University, Civil War historians are passing this book around gleefully -- it's the first "new information" to come out in a long while! The work is well-researched, comprehensive, and accessible to Mormons and non-Mormons alike. Congratulations on a fine bridging work.
