basic tote, poor extras

The tote itself is of decent quality and has held up well for my 8 year old. However, he picked it out based on the fact that it had a compass and pockets. Should have followed my gut -- the compass broke within a week (cheap plastic) and never worked well to begin with, but its not like you need a compass at church. Also, there's no place to put pens/pencils unless they are pretty small. The mesh pocket is worthless as there is no way to put anything in it and not have it fall out. It's definitely an $18 tote, which is fine, but it would be nice to have at least 1 useable pocket. If I were to do it again, I would spend the $18 on a tote without gadgets and with functional pockets.
