Look! A bad D&D game!

Reading this book is just like stepping into someone's lousy RPG: not without charm and fun, but completely lacking any real depth, characterization, purpose, or soul. All it really has is a load of fantasy and a lot of passion from whomever is involved. This novel has all the definitions of epic fantasy, but ultimately fails to make an impact with its pieces. Oh, it's pretty fun, but it seems but a shadow for what it strives. Perhaps future editions will fix this, but personally I feel there is not much with which to work.
Here is the premise: Everything has been destroyed. All souls are kept in storage in the Book of Immortality, and only five planets exist, controlled by a bunch of crazy gods. The last three Earthlings are part of a prophecy to restore whatever these prophecy types are supposed to restore.
