Product Description

Estimated time of death: approximately 11:00 Saturday evening. Signs of trauma: a two-inch, sutured incision on the inside of her left leg, directly over the femoral artery and vein. Remarkable findings: no blood in body. Entire circulatory system filled with liquid resembling embalming fluid.

Possible cause of death: Undetermined.

Rebekah Smith thrives on the mystery and challenge of her work in the city morgue, using her skills as assistant to the Chief Medical Examiner to pinpoint the cause of death in even the most bizarre of cases. When several bloodless centenarians arrive at the morgue in quick succession, she has few answers‹but one thing is certain: there is nothing natural about these deaths. This is murder.

So Rebekah enlists the help of her boyfriend, Special Investigations Detective Josh Lansing, and their pursuit of a disturbing trail of clues leads them from the stark halls of the morgue to a world of dark secrets and twisted intentions.

As they piece together the horrifying truth, Rebekah and Josh are drawn deeper into a web of danger and deceit that will ultimately threaten their relationship‹and their lives.

Gross

Creepy, creepy, creepy. The female lead was too abrasive for my taste. I found it difficult to connect to her as the heroine of the story. While I kept reading to see if it could end well, the gory details had me taking breaks to keep from feeling sick. This book is not for the faint of heart.

Best of Gregg Luke!

I have to admit that I am usually not a fan of the horror or "scary" genre. Yes, I admit that I am a chicken but I also don't like how many of these stories have overly graphic images. Fortunately, Deadly Undertakings had just the right amount of "creepiness" without crossing the line to horror. And that is what I liked so much about it! I also liked the fact that this book was completely unique and creative in the LDS fiction genre. Deadly Undertakings had such a good villain! He definitely creeped me out and was completely crazy. But I love how the author humanized hin just enough to also make me feel sorry for him because bad guys that you can sympathize with are the creepiest of all! As with all Gregg Luke medical mysteries, I am impressed with the level of knowledge and research that went in to making this book realistic. Some of the descriptions of autoposies and dead bodies were definitely cringe-worthy but they helped give the book an authentic feel. And of course, I appreciated the underlying romance. I liked how even though Rebekah and Josh were already dating when the story began, the focus was on the growth of their relationship instead of on the "getting together" part. It was a nice change of pace from most books. In my opinion, Deadly Undertakings is definitely Gregg Luke's best novel to date! If you like mystery and crime thrillers, then put this one next on your to-be-read pile (and don't forget to read it under the covers with a flashlight!)

Deadly Undertakings

5 out of 5 stars. I am starting right off with a rating today, because I can't wait to tell you how much I loved this book. My husband gets a kick out of sitting next to me when I'm reading, especially when I'm reading spooky books. I gasp loudly, hold my breath, and shake my head too many times for him to count. This book was no exception. I loved it! I loved the mystery, the science, and Rebekah and Josh most of all. I loved them as a couple and their playful banter, even under extreme stress. I also enjoyed the point of view changes. It was interesting to see how others in the story saw their situation. (I can't say more :) Gregg has definitely out done himself with this book. I can tell by reading his books that he has a brilliant mind, and have greatly enjoyed the books I have read from this great author. I also loved the Easter Egg from his Whitney nominated book from 2011, Bloodborne.

This book is creepy not for the faint of heart or those looking for a regular book. It is amazing and I love it! The ending is great it ties everything all together and makes all the creepy feelings evaporate. Skillfully done and I love it!
