Fun, clean and exciting!" Ted Baehr, Movieguide
"The most enjoyable live-action family film since Holes!" Joe Williams, St. Louis Post
In this hysterical LDS comedy, a local Pinewood Derby competition transforms an average group of dads into overzealous rivals desperate to build the winning car. As egos swell, the kids are lucky if they get to pick the paint color. While the dads are busy with outlandish gimmicks and sabotage, the underestimated Cub Scouts pull together and discover the true meaning of sportsmanship!
Featuring Greg Germann (Ally McBeal), Lauren Holly (Dumb and Dumber), and Pat Morita (The Karate Kid), Down and Derby delivers uproarious laughs for anyone who has ever fallen prey to the infectious delirium of Derby fever!

If you have ever had any male member of the family participate in a pinewood derby--or not, you can identify and laugh with Down and Derby. Wish there were more movies like this. I laughed as much or more than my kids.
First Place Family Fun!

Fun for the whole family, especially if there's a scouter on board! I thought it was going to look like other lower budget movies...but it's Disney caliber! It has a great cast and could easily have been a theater hit. All kids will enjoy this, not just for scouters! Zoom this baby right in to your cart, it's worth it!
Worst movie I've seen recently

Another poor attempt at stereotyping 'LDS Dads'. This was by far the most inane, contrived and thoroughly stupid movie that I've had the misfortune of seeing.
Great one!

I really liked this movie and know that some fathers get carried away - almost that much. It was a bit exaggerated, but funny. I liked the ending and thought it was one of the better acted films. It would have been nice to let the bad guy be nice after all as he congratulated the winner and not show his pride through the door.
Don't bother

This movie is so awful. I wish I hadn't finished it. The humor is completely over the top--think home teachers. I suppose if you liked that, you will like this.
Great movie

Great movie. THIS is THE movie for cub scouts & families, mainly for dads. I laughed during the whole movie.
Misses the mark--badly.

Bathroom humor. Something you would expect on the Disney channel, but I wouldn't expect faithful members of the Christ's Church to stoop to this level. It reminded me of a slightly toned down version of a Saturday Night Live Skit. Nobody in the movie was made out to be Latter-day Saints nor were there any religious elements. The main moral is that you can win without cheating, but the entire movie is spent in finding some way to cheat. There are several times four letter words are used (the words common on kids television these days). There are also some sexual situations, though mild they were unnecessary and they would easily be spotted by many grade-schoolers. If you made the movie to attract a worldly audience you failed...it's too childish. If you made the movie to entertain LDS audiences again you failed...too Nickelodeon. Most faithful members are too busy serving to watch these types of movies anyway but it would be nice to make a few more entertaining movies that would be good for children and adults. Too bad it's Pat Morita's last movie, he was a fine actor and hardly even in this picture.
Very Funny

Even non-LDS scouts can relate to this one.

I watched it in the theateres it is a wonderful comedy. It depicts what dads really do with their childrens cars. I highly recommend this movies for pinewood derbys.
Not really impressed.

Pinewood Derby Obsession
by Jim - reviewed on November 17, 2008
Was a bit disappointed in this movie. Too much "STUPID" humor. I wonder if pinewood junkies do exist. I like the add in of the original pinewood derby founder. That was a nice touch.
