Brandon Mull has proven himself a master of the fantasy genre. Rise of the Evening Star was almost impossible to put down! This installment of Fablehaven was even more gripping and suspenseful than the first. I would highly recommend the Fablehaven books to anyone who enjoys fantasy!

Absolutely amazing imagination. I wondered if the second book would stand up to the first. I have re-read the first several times. Book 2 not only stood up but it's even better. Excellent examples of good and evil. Perfect ending to keep you wanting more. Well done Mr. Mull, very well done.
Great Read for Everyone

Rise of the Evening Star- Even Better

Fablehaven Rise of the Evening Star was everything that the first book was and more! Mull has outdone himself in this fantastic sequel. His vivid imagery and imaginative plot has me impatiently waiting for the continuation of the Fablehaven series. Definitely a must-buy!
Couldn't put it down!

I originally bought the Fablehaven series for my daughter who is an avid reader. Somehow I got to reading them first and couldn't put them down! Wow! what can I say? Brandon Mull has a wonderfully gifted imagination. The first book was spellbounding as is book two, Rise of the Evening Star. In my opinion, it is more exciting than the first! If he continues to write at this caliber, there will be no stopping Brandon Mull from making Fablehaven as recognizable and as well loved as Hogswarts! When is book three coming out? I can't wait to get my hands on it! BTW - My daughter has finished the both books and loved them too!
Move over Harry Potter-Fablehaven is here!

I LOVED this book. It was fabulous. I have read all the Harry Potters, Leven Thumps, Mice and Magic, etc. I thought Fablehaven blew them all away. Not only is the story well written and extremely imaginative, but it is clean. I love that I can read it to my kids without worrying about nightmares! Well done Mr. Mull.

Kids love these books, as a parent you can't go wrong buying them. They'll read them again and again.
Even out does the first, which is no small feat

Props to you, Brandon! As seems to be the theme here in the reviews, you've even out done your first book (which was great) in all aspects. Imaginitive story line, great characters, plot twists, and a pacing that keeps momentum from start to finish (unlike another popular, LDS-authored, fictional series. I won't mention any names---except Bella, Edward and Sloooooooooow). The Fablehaven Series is just a fantastically, fun read for any age. Bring on Book 3!!

This book kept me reading until almost two o'clock in the morning. It's brilliant plots and characters flow smoothly. Much like a movie i can tell these are going to be a classic.
Even better than the first!

I loved the first Fablehaven. It was a book written for kids (and stays true to that start), while allowing teens and grown-ups to enjoy it. This book surpasses the first. You already know the characters and they waste no time getting into the adventure! Mystery, adventure, action, enjoyment ... it is all in here. What a fun pair of kids and their adventure into the immaginative preserve Fablehaven! I definitely enjoyed this book! 5 Stars!
Great!

The Fablehaven is a series about two main characters named Kendra and Seth who are two children that have no idea that their Grandpa Sorensen is the caretaker of a magnificent preserve where magical creatures are kept safe from a world that has denied the manifestation of their existence. In the first book, Kendra and Seth live with their Grandfather over the summer where they learn all about the mysterious things that go on around the house and grounds. Through investigative means they learn about the mysteries, laws and treaties that govern this magical refuge. By the end of the first book, the children assist their grandparents on saving the preserve from evils lurking within the boundaries of Fablehaven. In the second book, “Rise of the Evening Star”, the action starts immediately when we learn about a secret society, called the Rise of the Evening Star, that seeks to overthrow all the mythical sanctuaries around the world and is currently targeting Fablehaven. Kendra and Seth return to their Grandpa Sorensen’s house after realizing that they are now in immediate danger as well. We also meet three new characters, a potion master, creature expert, and mythical artifact extraordinaire who are enlisted to help save the preserve with their expertise. Their mission is to find a specific artifact possessing extreme power that has been hidden and guarded somewhere on the preserve, and retrieve it so the Rise of the Evening Star could not possibly obtain it for themselves or the consequences would prove disastrous. “…the artifact that grants power over space does so in a way superior to any known spell or relic or creature… which is why they must remain apart and out of the hands of our enemies at all costs,” Grandpa Sorensen confirms to Kendra and Seth. With the combined effort of everyone involved, Fablehaven is saved and peace is restored temporarily to the preserve. The Fablehaven series has so far been my ultimate favorite for its creatively planned plot, thrilling and suspenseful story line, and good character development. I love how perfect it is for the entire family as that is the main focus and audience of Brandon Mull’s fiction writing. He is particularly skilled in writing especially exciting stories with surprise twist endings and that edge-of-your-seat anticipation as his story lines consists of complex plots that ingeniously all tie together in the end. I can only think of positive things about his writing and most especially the Fablehaven series. I would strongly recommend this series to anyone with an interest in pure adventure and excitement with a unique spin of mythical mysteries.
Great for kids
by Rachel - reviewed on December 29, 2011
Brandon Mull has written a series of books where children are the heroes, doing heroic things, while still remaining within the bounds of believable behavior for children. He manages to make the fantastic sound almost realistic - nothing is too easy or too good to be true, but it is magical and fantastic and wonderful. Still, everything has a price, and sometime the right thing to do is very hard to do, which is a great lesson for children to learn.
