One snowy evening, when the rest of the kingdom is reveling in a celebratory feast, a king and his faithful page venture out to deliver food, wood, and comfort to a poor peasant family. "Good King Wenceslas" is the beloved Christmas carol that relates this tender story, and it is brought to life in this book and DVD by actress Jane Seymour and artist Omar Rayyan. The sumptuous illustrations reflect the medieval setting of this tale, capturing the lavish Feast of St. Stephen at the castle and the arduous trek through heavy snow to a humble cottage deep within the forest. The original lyrics to the song, set to music more than 150 years ago, are interwoven throughout the story. The actions of the kind, humble Bohemian king reflect the invitation of another King to follow in His footsteps, bringing the blessings of Christmas to all of His kingdom.
The book includes a DVD featuring Jane Seymour's narration of this classic story, performed with the world-acclaimed Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Also included is an introduction by Jane Seymour and an original illustration created by her especially for this book.

Granted, I wasn't one of the fortunate few who was able to see Jane Seymour in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's Christmas Concert for free. And that's why it's so good that Deseret Book provides the unfortunate many (like myself) the chance to buy the concert DVDs and CDs every year. What a thrill to find this wonderful book and DVD. This is the best rendition of the Wenceslas tale I've ever seen. I would have liked a few more pictures of Jane Seymour. She's a cutie. But oh well, thank goodness for the internet.

This book is BEAUTIFULLY illustrated! It explains the Christmas song we sing each year, but until now, at least I, never really understood. What a beautiful way to teach about the giving of Christmastime and the example of one King to his page. I also LOVED the side notes explaining "St. Stephen's Day" and what a " Page boy" is; Along with "life in a castle" and "Christmas celebrations in the middle ages." The book is wonderful in and of itself, But there is more!!! You also get a DVD of Jane Seymour telling this story with the Mormon Tabernacle singing the song and amazing dancers performing. A true treasure book for Christmas!
Sweet and beautiful

I was blown away by each of these marvelous products. First, Good King Wenceslas was amazing. I'm afraid that I never knew anything about King Wenceslas till I viewed the DVD. I also had the book opened while I listened to the beautiful music and Jane Seymour as the narrator. She had a beautiful and powerful voice. The illustrations by Omar Rayyan were perfect. I loved his use of watercolor. I definitely recommend this book and DVD especially as a gift to a loved one this Christmas season.
