What happens when the world goes dark?
The battle of good against evil intensifies in the darkness of an EMP-devastated America. The electromagnetic pulses that wiped out the country's entire electrical grid have reduced people to an almost animal existence. While those with good hearts pull together to help each other, those inclined to evil find free reign for the rage that Satan and his minions are stirring up in their hearts.
For Sara Brighton, the time is fast approaching when she must face the frightening realities her husband, Neil, warned her about before his death. Sam's problem is more immediate: How can he get his family to a safe place? Bono is still trying to get to his family, and Azadeh is struggling to find her role in the family that has reached out to welcome her in. Meanwhile, the followers of Satan plot to take over the government of the United States and remake it to fulfill their own greed and lust for power.
The situation for all of these people is desperate, but even in a world gone mad, there are moments of hope, the possibility of miracles, and help from the other side of the veil. Discover the truth: The last days are terrible, but they are also great. Don't miss the next gripping volume in this landmark series!
What readers are saying about The Great and Terrible:
“It isn't often that a book — let alone a series — comes along that has the power to move, inspire, and thrill in a page-turning adventure that leaves the reader wishing the story wouldn't end. Yet, this is precisely what Chris Stewart achieves.”
“To have my fascination for military techno-thrillers reinforced with the real-life practice of my religion is a literary dream come true!”
“Chris Stewart is brilliant in providing us with a realistic story that makes us think about our own preparedness, both temporal and spiritual. I absolutely cannot wait for the next book.”

Realistic and Inspiring!!
by Joe - reviewed on May 07, 2008
Wow! I just bought the book yesterday and finished it just over an hour ago. I am shaken by the realistic portrayal of our world and Satan's influence in it; yet inspired by those who will end up triumphant when they follow the Lord. I highly recommend this whole series and this volume doesn't disappoint!!
Seemed as if it was written as a bridge between book 4 and 6 instead of being able to stand on it's own as the first four could.

This book made me look forward to the next book as much as the first four have but the content felt like filler between the last and the next vol. That being said it is still a very well writen book and I do highly recommend it.
A must read (or listen)!

So, when does the next book come out?! This series is incredible. I'm going to have a tough time waiting patiently for the next book to come out to find out what happens to the characters! , This book also really makes me think of how prepared I am and what else I need to do to prepare for possible tough times ahead.
The Best Series

A must read for every reader. Chris Stewart makes this series so realistic just like the way it may have happened all the way through how it could happen. This series has opened my eyes to really being prepared for the unknown.
They Keep Getting Better!!!!
by Teri - reviewed on March 30, 2009
The Great and Terrible Vol 5: From The End Of Heaven by Chris Stewart This Volume is just as mesmerizing as the previous book, but since this one was a Whitney finalist this year, I'd say it's a tad better. We see The Brighton's, Mary, her young, cancer-ridden daughter Kelly Beth and Azadeh keeping one step ahead of the enemy. Bono is attempting to reach his wife and daughter in Memphis, while Sam tries to find his family near Chicago. The never-ending battle between Good and Evil keeps you reading far into the night. This is the best last days series I've ever read, so do yourselves a favor and run to your nearest bookstore, library or amazon to get a copy.
Roller coaster...mostly worth the ride.

I didn't really like the first book, but I'm a sucker for a series...so I kept reading. I'm glad I did. I don't think it should be six books long...book four definitely shouldn't be a separate book. I did really like this book, though. It has action, spiritual element, good vs evil, story moves forward and leaves you looking forward to the last book.
Great thought provoking book!

I am so glad that I started listening to this great series! The books have given me more cause to think about my place here on earth and where I intend to go when I leave this earth. I have spent a lot more time on personal goals and being better prepared for the future. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Who dies, where do they end up and how do they get there etc. And how I can be better prepared for trials that will surely come.
I couldn't put the book down.

Both my husband and I have read this series. I read the book in 2 days and he listens to it on CD in two days! The characters seem so real and the story is brilliantly told. From the End of Heaven is thrilling and captivating. I can hardly wait to see how Chris Stewart develops the next volume and the rest of the story.
It will blow you away!

An AMAZING book!! Every book has its own unique touch and this one is no different! Just hope we don't have to wait a year for volume 6!!!!
A Let Down Was Overdue
by James - reviewed on June 13, 2008
As much as I want to give Volume 5 a kneejerk 5 stars, I cannot. All other authors I love to read have had similar plateaus in their offerings and now so has, it seems, Chris Stewart. , It must be very difficult to make each succeeding book a cut above the last. This episode seemed to just tread water, marking time until the story will again hit the stride that Chris has been known for in Vol's 1 - 4. I have faith in the premis, however, and this author. I will eagerly await
Wow, and double wow too!

Amazing! Chris Stewart is at the top of his game. This series is so suspenseful, hopeful, faithful, dangerous, daring, and spiritual I cannot believe it. I can feel the Spirit in parts of reading this book, I get chills at the portrayal of the Aversary and his evil minions, I get chills when the Angels of Light show up and banish the darkness. I have told everyone I know about these books and cannot wait until book six. I am so hoping we can get our hands on it by Christmas. Phenomenal series and it just keeps getting better and better!
You are making me wait again?
by Customer - reviewed on May 20, 2008
You can't leave me hanging like this! What happens? I can't wait for the next book. I am planning a cross-county trip next week and will listen to the CDs again. This is a wonderful series.

Christ Stewart can't write fast enough for me. I am so caught up by the characters and their fate. A definite must-read!
Awesome Book!

Great Series! I really can't put any of the books down. I had surgery a month ago and since then have read all 5 books! They're amazing, it really gives you a good aspect of who you are, how strong you really can be, and how we are tempted. Such great books! Please don't take too long for the next!
Perhaps the best book of the series!

This book was phenomenal! I could not put it down. The story keeps getting better and better!
You won't be able to put it down!
by Customer - reviewed on May 15, 2008
Unbelievably good. Every book in this series just gets better and better. Chris's spiritual insight is the best part of these books, but they' re also incredibly griping; you won't be able to put them down. I think Chris Stewart is one of the best writers in the country right now. I've read all of his non-LDS books, and they're just as good as The Great and Terrible series. God of War just came out a couple weeks ago, and it kept me up all night.
Classic, Timeless Epic!

Everything I would like to say or could say has been written by others who have reviewed this book. , All I can say it that IF you have not read this series(or started)you are robbing yourself of one of the great literary experiences of this era.
Dissapointing.
by Customer - reviewed on June 11, 2008
Chris Stewart seems to have some continuity problems. The first book the series was brilliant, the second was a bore that dragged on... like the author was stuck in a stall. Luckily a friend recommended I give the third book a try - it was brilliant, as was the fourth. This latest installment was a real let-down! It seemed more like it should have been a couple of chapters at the beginning of the next book rather than a book on its own. It was a vehicle to move the overall storyline along, but lacked any real depth. Too short, a bit boring and repetitive! Would have rather had a very large fifth book that ended the series.
Gripping and inspiring

The continuation of this series is heart, mind and spirit filling. This particular book leaves you in a place of introspection and appreciation for the blessings we all have right now in our lives. The entire series is set on a spiritual basis, showing how living the gospel, keeping the commandments and following the prophet and the spirit, how lives can and are made better in the worst of circumstances. They have definately changed my life and those of others. Like getting hit with a brick to get your attention so to speak. Love them all and can't wait to read the last one. Chris Stewart is inspired!
Awesome series...

The plot was left wide open for another book. Great read! The plot is rather scary to think that this could really happen. When I finish each book in the series, I stock up on emergency supplies!
Can Hardly Wait for the Next Volume
by Customer - reviewed on September 18, 2008
Each volume seems to get better and better. My husband and I have read all the books in the series so far. It is interesting how realistic they are. The things that happen in the book could actually take place. That can be a scarey thought. But we have a knowledge of Heavenly Father's plan so as members we should not be as afraid when things happen. The books keep me on track.
An addicting series!
by Rachel - reviewed on September 20, 2008
I devour each new book as it comes out within the first day or two, and have passed them along to family and friends! This specific volume is more focused on the characters and how they are dealing with the events that have happened so far in the series. Still action packed and suspenseful, but on a smaller scale than previous volumes. I can't wait for the next installment!
Could not put the books down.

I am not one that can read a book very fast but I read all four of Chris's book in the few weeks I was in between jobs. It took we only a week to read number five. I loved the 4 and 5th book and I can not wait to read the 6th. It will be a fight between my wife and me as to whom gets to read the 6th book first. Chris's writing is the best and he puts it on a level that we can all understand. These are the best books I have ever read and I have a libary full of books.
Incredibly Insirational Series
by Leilani - reviewed on October 01, 2008
I was given book one as a gift from my sister about a year ago. I was captivated and went out and got the next 3 books. They to inspired me with the realistic portrayal of events that go on over seas and how the aversary and his evil minions dominate so much of the world today. Then book 5 came out. I was so inspired at how important it is to have a strong testimony and faith. Thank you Chris Stewart for your amazing and brilliantly told stories. They have changed my life by waking me up to what may be in the future and where my faith needs to be. I have thanked Heavenly Father often for sending this insite to you to share with the rest of us. Please continue your truly inspired works.
Great series!

Great series, Chris is a wonderful writer. He puts you right in the action while building your testimony.
Ugh
by Customer - reviewed on December 29, 2008
This is by far the weakest book in the series. The characters have little to do and no where to go. The plot feels like 50 pages stretched out fill a 300 page book. I really like Chris' other books and hope he does a better job telling an actual compelling story rather than virtually phoning it in by spending so much time setting up his next book.
