About the Author
The 360 members of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir represent men and women from many different backgrounds and professions and range in age from 25 to 60. They reflect a medley of unique lives and experiences and are brought together by their love for singing and their faith. Their incomparable voices are the common chord that unites to form the choral group known all over the world as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir originated in the mid-19th century in Salt Lake City. As the Latter-day Saints moved west, Church President Brigham Young included musicians among members of the advance parties. Consequently, a small choir first sang for a conference of the Church in the Salt Lake Valley on August 22, 1847, just 29 days after the first group arrived. The origins of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir may be found in the desire and commitment of early converts to include appropriate music in both sacred and secular events.
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir has appeared at 13 world’s fairs and expositions, performed at the inaugurations of five U.S. presidents, and sung for numerous worldwide telecasts and special events. Five of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s recordings have achieved “gold record” and two have achieved “platinum record” status. The most popular was the Grammy-Award-winning 1959 release of “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” with the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Beautiful Easter CD

This is a wonderful addition to my CD collection. The singing and playing is beautiful, and the selection of Easter music is appropriately varied and joyful. I'm going to take issue with one of the other reviewers who says it lacks energy on some of the selections. Don't confuse tempo with energy. "He is Risen" and "Christ the Lord is Risen Today" are triumphal marches--stately and majestic--but they are indeed energetic. In these arrangements it would be silly to take them faster, hoping that speed would add energy. It wouldn't--it would just add speed. There are different ways of expressing joy in the resurrection, and the don't all involve fast tempos. In short, this is a completely wonderful recording.
Love almost everything the choir, orchestra and organ do. But this CD, except for two bright spots, lacked Energy.

I am a tremendous fan of the choir & orchestra and Mack Wilberg. His arrangements are genius and magnificent. When I saw this CD for sale, I jumped at the chance to bring Easter in with great celebration. I also bought a copy for my sister. Let me get to the good stuff first. The last piece, Handel's "Worthy Is the Lamb" was thrilling and exceptional. Bro. Wilberg directed with energy and at an excellent tempo. The choir attacked their phrases with much gusto, and carried this piece admirably. In contrast, "Jesus is Risen" is a children's song and was presented accordingly and beautifully. "In the Garden" is akin to a lullaby, but "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross" nearly put me to sleep. There were two big disappointments for me. The first one being the lead-off number of the CD, "Christ the Lord is Risen today." This song lacks energy, conviction and a proper tempo. I remember years ago my mother directing choir and congregational music and when we sang "Christ the Lord..." her tempo was masterfully significant of the Risen Christ ... she would nearly dance on her feet to the tempo and each stroke of her baton was like a lifting movement. This did not happen for me in this rendering of this beautiful Easter hymn. But, perhaps the biggest disappointment for me was "He Is Risen." The tempo was even less inspiring for this hymn which should connote the risen Lord. Again, there was little energy in the choir. The bright spot for this piece is the organ and orchestra, especially the brass section. Will I listen to this CD a lot during Easter season? Oh yes, I'm a devotee of the Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at T.S. But, I would enjoy it much more if the energy of the choir had matched the beauty of the pieces, their messages and their unique arrangements.

Beautiful * Angelic * Amazing

I love all things MO TAB (what we call the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in our house). Their music is so beautiful, uplifting, and soothing. This CD is all of those things :). When I get a new CD from Deseret Book, I add it to the collection I have in my van that we listen to on Sundays. It helps us get in a better "mood" before church. Sometimes we don't leave in a happy mood. But you cannot help but feel the spirit when listening to this beautiful music. I just love it. Christ the Lord Has Risen Today is one of my favorite hymns so listening to the MO TAB sing it makes me happy. I am amazed at how powerful the music is. There are 360 members and when they sing it give me chills. It's amazing. Beautiful. Their combined voices are angelic. I am sure individually they are just as angelic. This is a wonderful CD to help celebrate Easter. Each song is a beautiful representation of Christ and all he has done for us. I really cannot give this CD enough praise. I just love the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. They are so talented. I love to be able to turn on any CD of theirs and feel the instant power of the spirit. It's a beautiful thing. Thanks to Deseret Book's Michelle Moor and Adam Young for letting me be part of this tour and review. It has been a pleasure! Source: I received this CD from Deseret Book in return for an honest review. I am not affiliated with Deseret Book, and was not compensated in any way for this review. These are my own PERSONAL thoughts on the CD.

I absolutely love The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and this album is one of their best! I love having peaceful, uplifting music to listen to and this has six beautiful arrangements of Easter songs. I have enjoyed listening and singing along with this album. The CD cover is also a booklet which includes the words to each song, as well as a little bit of background on each one. There is also a message in the front of the booklet and I love the last sentence: "In a variety of styles, and from different eras, these musical expressions of faith share the same fervent message--that our Savior lives, and has redeemed us with His love." I highly recommend this CD to remember Jesus Christ and His Resurrection during Easter and year round. Definitely a 5-star album!
Six beautiful songs!

There are six beautiful songs on the new CD He is Risen performed by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir with the Orchestra at Temple Square. True to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's reputation, the harmonies are gorgeous and bring the spirit of the song straight to the listener! Each song on this CD testifies of the Easter season. The orchestra is beautiful, the songs are gorgeous and the wonderful voices of the choir bring the spirit of Christ straight to you. I could listen to these six songs on repeat; what a beautiful blend of vocal harmony and orchestra! This is definitely one that you will listen to over and over again! I received a complimentary copy of this CD; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

This album is incredible, the choir sounds like they are leading a true celebration with these songs. I feel like it's the perfect soundtrack for Spring and for Easter! The last song in particular is so powerful. I recommend this album to everyone!
