Fun game with good message

We got this for Christmas and have played it all the way through. No problems at all playing it on a Windows 7 machine (it didn't do so well on an older Windows XP machine). I thought the plot and artwork were very well done. There are battles that involve weapons, but there is no graphic violence or gore. Defeated enemies fall to the ground and fade out.

Notes from the Demo

So I was suspicious about what the quality would be like but after playing the demo I must give this a high recommendation (with a caveat). I didn't understand the gameplay straight away although my boys did. It is similar in some respects to the Adventure Quest game they play. The music and character design are excellent but the sets are FANTASTIC! I had fun just watching my sons play and imagining myself in the Book of Mormon. My 7 year old is so excited that he tells my he can't sleep. He describes it as, "the funnest game I ever played! And it's about the Book of Mormon!" Now the caveat - At least in the demo I can't see anything that is about the Book of Mormon. I see in the other reviews that the full version has more story elements. I'm i bit frustrated that the map is wrong (the demo starts out telling us that Jershon is WEST of Zarahemla - in reality it is EAST (Alma 31:3)). All that said, my boys had a great time with it and I had a fun time watching and imagining. I'm ordering the full version and you should too. These guys put a lot of work into this and in our market, it's very hard to make a profit so show your support.

It was so cool seeing Zarahemla, Captain Moroni, then all the lands and peoples you read about in the Book of Mormon!

This is exactly the kind of thing I've wanted to see! It was so cool being able to enter that era of scripture, and to be part of the unfolding events. Just the thought of seeing Zarahemla and meeting Captain Moroni was amazing, but the adventure of the game on top of that was just a lot of fun! I really hope there's more to come.

Visually exciting

This looked far better than what I expected. Enjoyed watching the kids play it and explaining the story behind it. Good way to get them interested in the stories and characters of the Book of Mormon.

Not worth it

When we attempt to open a saved game we get an eternal black screen with nothing but a laggy mouse pointer. We would have to play the entire game nonstop without being killed to get to the end, because every time we have to start over. About the only thing I like about this game is the music. It is definitely not worth $25.

Fun ages 7+, adventure role playing game, great graphics

Helam is great fun and an adventure game my nine-year old loves to play! My husband and I enjoy playing the game with him too. This PC game is the start of what I wished Tennis Shoes among the Nephites book series were turned into. (Adjust the monitor settings if you have slow mouse movement.)Downsides are the save options. There are only checkpoints to save the game, so keep that in mind if you give your kid a time limit to play and he needs to make it to the next checkpoint so the game play is saved:)

Doesn't have to be perfect to be addicting

by  Allen  -   reviewed on  December 11, 2011

Well, the Book of Mormon does say Jershon is to the east of Zarahemla, and the game says it's west. I hope things like that can be resolved in updates to the game. And to be honest I agree with the comment that the graphics look dated. Especially with that in mind, the thing that surprised me the most (though I haven't seen anyone else mention this) is that even with a new Intel i7 quad-core computer with 8GB of RAM and 1GB of dedicated graphics memory, I have to lower the game settings a LOT so that my mouse doesn't lag! So it's not perfect, but it IS fun! Controls are fairly intuitive, and simple enough for my 5-year old, though plenty enjoyable for this 45-year old. And my WIFE is excited to get it for him this Christmas, so it MUST be good! :)

Visually beautiful game. Some game play quirks but otherwise fun to play throughout. The only suggestion would be to put more frequent save points or a way to save from the menu so that you can limit your child's gaming time and not rely on them getting to the next save point.

This wasn't worth the money

You had to read the story. The animation was at least 10 years ago. What age is the game aimed at? Certainly not teens.

Easy to learn, fun to play

by  Customer  -   reviewed on  December 06, 2011

This game was very easy to learn to play and is definitely fun for kids. (I'm an adult and have spent some time playing too!) It's nice to have a video game that is values based and creates a tie to the Book of Mormon. The rating says 10+, but I would imagine slightly younger kids would still enjoy it and be safe with the content. Great game and at a reasonable price...most of the time you can't buy a new video game for less than $40!

Great for kids!

I bought this for my nephews and watched them play for 3 hours straight! (I probably should have taken them outside to play soccer and get fresh air, but this is a Book of Mormon video game after all. My sister in law shouldn't be too mad.) From my youngest at 5 to the oldest at 13 they all had fun taking turns playing as Helam!

Short but excelent

this game is and awesome way to tell the stripling warrior tale. the game-play is simple, but engaging and addicting. my gripe is that this game is a bit short. however this is the perfect game for kids to learn a little about the book of Mormmon use their imaginations and have a blast! highly recommend
