From the Inside Out (Talk on CD)
Healthy Media Guidelines for LDS Families
In this practical and useful resource, Dr. Jill Manning discusses how families can create a media cultural awareness that is based on clear, discerning standards and values. Dr. Manning presents six principles that will help families learn to harness the benefits and blessings associated with modern media, while at the same time protecting themselves from the harmful effects of overindulgence and negative media. “Our ability to make good media choices and establish healthy media guidelines begins as we strive to become more aware of our media use; clarify the purpose of media in our lives; be wise in what we consume; develop our ability to discern and seek out the best; and be thoughtful about how much we take in, including when and where we do so,” she explains. By taking our media use to a higher plane, we can take our lives, our homes, our families, and our communities to a higher plane as well.

Great ideas for improving relationships

I was very pleased with Jill Manning's CD. It got me thinking about how much time I spend on the internet, my cell phone, watching TV or movies. I started thinking about what is my "Media Profile?" For the most part I feel my media choices are good, but I realized there are some that are borderline and probably don't invite the Spirit into my life or the life of my family. I just realized how important it is to try and avoid letting any bad influences in through media (she uses the story of the 3 little pigs as a great analogy). Secondly, maybe I should spend less time with media and more time with my family talking and interacting. When it comes down to the end of my life, the movies I've seen, shows I've watched and things I've searched on the internet won't matter, but my family relations will. I just found it a very thought provoking CD.
