Product Description

Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate . . . until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.

The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.

Great Job Ally!

by Leslie - reviewed on July 16, 2011

This is another great book from Ally Condie! This has Hunger Games dystopian feel without the violence. I like the premise and plot, and have lots of questions I want answered! Can't wait for the next book to get here!

I knew her secrets...

by Jennifer - reviewed on September 20, 2011

I really felt like I was a part of this story, like I could see it unfolding in front of me or I like I was reading someone's journal, their private thoughts. It was a very intimate story and I almost worried that Cassia's secret was going to get out and that she would end up getting herself, and everyone she cared about, in a lot of trouble. I'm very much looking forward to book two....Crossed!

I love this book! The second one cannot come out fast enough for me. I read this book in less than 48 hours. The second I set it down the characters were in my mind until I picked it back up.

Who would your match be?

by Alexaus - reviewed on September 21, 2011

This book is an interesting story about teenagers who are matched up with each other rather than choosing their mates. It is a great story that makes you grateful that you are free to make these choices.

Definitely a Must-Have!

by Katie - reviewed on January 22, 2011

I loved this book! I wasn't familiar with her other novels, but now I want to be. Great authorship and an intriguing plot, a sweet romance and a philosophical puzzle. This novel is more than just a basic love story, it's a symbolic and philosophical adventure. I would highly recommend this to anyone!

An interesting read!

by Kate - reviewed on March 01, 2011

Ally Condie has created a world that seems as possible as it is unsettling. No more worrying about what to wear, what to eat for lunch, or even what kind of exercise to do. These decisions have all been made for you by Society Officials so you always have the optimal outcome. Why worry about making a wrong choice? Cassia never did - until the officials made a mistake. That mistake leads Cassia on a journey that opens her eyes to the importance of choice. I appreciated the little touches that made Cassia's life seem so real. Everything seemed to have been accounted for - right down to our need to treasure certain "artifacts." Cassia, for example, is allowed to keep a perfectly preserved piece of the dress she selects to wear for her Match ball. At first, Cassia's rebellion seemed lacking. Her "deep" thoughts are not incredibly deep- but as the book progresses we see Cassia learn to think critically. It seemed like an accurate portrayal of someone who's never had to do much thinking for herself before. This book contains not only healthy teenage relationships but also shows a strong family dynamic. There are no "bad" boys and girls who are inexplicably attracted to them here. And, true to real life, while Mom and Dad seem a little "out of it" on a day to day basis, we later see they know exactly what Cassia is dealing with and are able to offer their own insight and support. It is a nice change from the typical teen-oriented romances available today. This is a refreshing book that leaves you wanting more. The sequel, Crossed, will be released November 1, 2011.
