A Powerful Study Guide
Example: Isaiah 1:18-19
Verse 18, next, is among the most famous of all quotes from Isaiah. With verses 1-15 as a backdrop, this verse wonderfully and clearly teaches the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ to cleanse and heal completely.
18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet [cloth dyed with scarlet, a color-fast dye], they shall be as white as snow [even though you think your sins are 'colorfast,' the Atonement can cleanse you]; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool [a long process is required to make wool white, but it can be done].
19 If ye be willing [an agency choice] and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land [you will prosper].

Of all of Ridges' "Made Easier" series, this is the most important one to have because it has Isaiah in it (the most quoted of all the prophets, and one whose words were expressly endorsed by the Savior). I just finished reading Isaiah for the fourth time directly, (20th time reading significant excerpts in the Book of Mormon), but I got far more out of it this time using Ridges' OT v.3 than any other time. He does especially well elucidating Isaiah's references to geo-political names, fiefdoms, sheiks and potentates, which helps one understand the larger points of the various prophecies. Then, of course, Ridges translates Isaiah's Hebrew and old English idioms, explains Isaiah's occasional sarcasm, and calls attention to various Hebrew parallelisms and poetic devices. I have other Isaiah commentaries, but I'd start here. Great treatment of the other prophets, as well, including Jeremiah, but the Isaiah treatment alone is worth the purchase price. Highly recommended.
