A Real Page Turner!

by  Stephanie  -   reviewed on  February 04, 2014

Ok, ok, ok. I'll admit, I avoided picking up and starting this book because, well, I knew that once I started, I wouldn't be able to put it down. And I was right! I started reading this book and I stressed and worried about Aria until I finally finished it. From the very first couple of pages I was drawn into Aria's story.... Aria is a senior in high school and her life is far from perfect. Her mothers death several years earlier still causes her much pain. Her father refuses to grieve and denies Aria an opportunity to heal when he takes all of her mothers precious things and locks them away telling Aria that it is "best to forget the past." Her father has specifically forbidden Aria to play on the piano, locking the parlor and locking his heart. One night they argue and Aria flees to the sanctuary of an old treehouse observatory on a neighboring property. She feels safe there, secure, until early one morning her privacy is disturbed by the high school boy, Thomas, who just moved onto the property with his parents. As he patiently befriends her he carefully uncovers her secrets and her talent at the piano. He encourages her to audition for Julliard and helps her stand up to her father offering her a home with his family. When a tragedy destroys everything Thomas holds dear it causes him to disappear leaving Aria alone to make her way in the world... yet she not alone as she discovers the music within herself....and she learns to heal her broken heart.

Amazing!

by  Melanie  -   reviewed on  February 19, 2014

Aria's mother died a few years ago and her father doesn't want any reminders of her so they don't talk about her and the music room is locked shut. Aria likes to break in when her father is gone but if he catches her when he comes home and he's drunk, she's in trouble. She can run faster than him so she heads to their neighbors treehouse when that happens and that is where she meets Thomas one night. He is so kind to her and becomes her friend. She doesn't need to worry about a relationship with him because he told her he doesn't date, but doesn't fill in the details (at least not right away). They do start to care about each other but soon tragedy strikes and he disappears. How will Aria move on with Thomas no longer in her life? This book is amazing!! It shows the power of music, friendship, love and second chances. I loved Aria and Thomas and how their relationship helped each other get through difficult circumstances. Thomas encouraged her to chase after her dream and helped her find a way to make it happen. Nathaniel, Vivian and Devin were great secondary characters and I liked her relationships with each of them as well. Nathaniel helped her fulfill her Juilliard dream and provided her with safety. I loved how Vivian came over to help her prepare for the dance and acted as her fairy godmother. Devin grew on me and I was glad he was able to befriend her and help her through a rough time. This book is an emotional roller coaster. I was happy and sad, I laughed and I cried, and the ending was perfect! There are quite a few secrets and as they are revealed, her father's behavior makes more sense (even though how he behaved is still not okay). This is a book I highly recommend and will definitely read again. I only have one warning: Once you start, it will be almost impossible to put down!

WONDERFUL!

by  Shauna  -   reviewed on  February 17, 2014

This book is SO BEAUTIFULLY written! Tender and loving! Sometimes harsh, but always hopeful! A book you will not want to put down! Aria has a hard life. Her mother has passed away, her father is abusive after he has been drinking, and she has been forbidden to play the piano...one of her only true loves in life. She had run away... to her secret hiding place from her father... when she first meets Thomas. He becomes her life-line...even encouraging her to pursue her dream of going to Julliard. She will have to keep it from her father...but she will find a way...because she has the love of Thomas. Yet once again her heart is ripped open when Thomas disappears with no explanation. Everyone tells her she is 'stronger than she thinks she is.' Can she really go on...alone...playing her 'porcelain keys?' OR... Is it true that 'only one person can help Aria find the right notes?' A WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL love story!

Porcelain Keys

by  Colleen  -   reviewed on  March 13, 2014

This was a sweet Y.A. romance fit for not just teens, but adults as well. Aria is struggling to overcome hardships that seem to pursue her while a senior in High School. Thomas shows up in her life when she least expects it. As their friendship grows, the bitter taste of death tears them apart. Thomas gave hope to Aria when she needed it the most, but then shuts Aria out when he needs her the most. Will she ever see him again? Will he be forgiven and also forgive himself when he feels his hardships are too much? Will their destiny be apart? Sarah did a great job creating these characters! I felt all the anguish and pain as if I were living that life. When the book starts out with fear and questions that need to be answered, it draws the reader in with a sense of urgency to know what the outcome will be. You want Aria and Thomas to be together forever and have a happily ever after. But life gets in the way as it does most of the time and things can change. I wasn't too excited about Devin coming into the picture. Because I was still hoping Thomas would show up. But the more I got to know Devin, he opened up Aria to life and love again. I am not a fan of love triangles, if you could call it that in this book, but in the end I was satisfied with the results and I think you will be too.

Gorgeous writing, gripping story, and beautiful characters. It’s been a while since I’ve read a book that has made me feel so many different emotions, and left my heart buzzing with electricity. The best part is, this book manages to be passionate while also being clean. I will be sharing this one with everyone I know!
