In order to truly understand Deity and how we can return to Him, we must first understand the meaning behind the sacred symbols found in religious ordinances, rituals, covenants, clothing, gestures and words. In this new book, author Alonzo L. Gaskill presents a myriad of ancient and modern Jewish, Christian, and Islamic practices which are illustrative of symbols Latter-day Saints would do well to understand.

Very informative on symbols in "x" ceremonies

Christopher, UT - May 24, 2012

Alonzo Gaskill (in my opinion) is one of the best LDS authors today. This is just another excellent book to add to the other 5 books or so that he has written. This book is very uplifting and gives you a deeper understanding on gospel symbols/symbolism. A must for those who have been endowed (or perhaps who will be endowed shortly). Ceremonies in general (or rites, rituals, ordinances) are very symbolic. Understanding the meanings behind the symbols make the 'ceremony' even more powerful and meaningful to you personally.

You will need to "double finger" this book (keep one finger where you're reading and another where the footnotes are) just like with his other books. This can be a little tiring at times, but well worth it. Especially if you enjoy reading the extra commentary in the footnotes as I do (lot of great info in the footnotes). Again, this is a MUST for your LDS Library. You will definitely be edified by reading this book.
