Saints and Soldiers (VHS Video)
Saints and Soldiers is a dramatic, intense and heroic WWII film about members of the Greatest Generation struggling to be both good men and good soldiers.
In-mid December 1944, while Hitler's Army blitzkriegs through the Ardennes Forest in Belgium. American sharpshooter Corporal Nathan Greer, known as Deacon, finds himself held captive with over one hundred other American Soldiers in a snow covered-field.
As panic and confusion ensue the German soldiers open fire on the American Prisoners, in the historical event now known as the Malmedy Massacre. Greer, his friend Gordon Gunderson and a handful of others escape the massacre by hiding in the nearby woods.
The small band of soldiers come across a stranded British intelligence officer with valuable information to be delivered to the Allied forces, further upping the stakes of their already dangerous situation.
With few weapons, no food and strained camaraderie, this tiny band must take on the unforgiving winter to fight their way back to Allied occupied territory.
In addition to winning 14 Best Picture Awards at film festivals nationwide, critics and audiences have showered Saints and Soldiers with praise, making it one of the most acclaimed films of 2004.

Although I am not a fan of war movies due to the crude language and violence, I enjoyed watching this movie. I purchased it after seeing a making of the film clip between conference sessions. The characters were compelling and the music added to the feel of the movie. I would recommend it.

I loved this movie! I watched it to see Kirby Heyborne and at the end of the movie I was like, 'was he even in it?' He did a great job acting in a completely different character!
Not just a movie about war - the real message is love
by Ramona - reviewed on January 28, 2009
Saints and Soldiers is one of the very best LDS-made movies I've seen so far but not one that I would recommend for young children, although 8 and up might be fine. The realities of war are definitely there, excluding vulgarity and nudity. The music, drama, and acting are all well done and not cheesy or patty-cake like some previous LDS movies. It introduces the theme of LDS men serving opposing sides of war and the brotherhood that can cross the lines of the battlefield. But to me, the real impact of this movie comes as it does in all great moments, when an individual rises above himself to save another - something akin to the atonement. The particular soul worth saving provides yet another layer to this message of love - something that really made me think and feel. Very well done!!!

I'm not one for war movies but this is a show that transcends genre and explores the core of the gospel and humanity. Easily one of the best LDS movies I have seen so far. Spiritual without being smarmy or preachy. For fans of high quality drama this movie is a must see.

This is a powerful film about living/upholding your values in a way that is not preachy. The music is incredible and perfect. , A must see for an LDS type movie.

Ryan Little is an amazing director. He did a great job with a shoe string budget. Kirby is really funny in this movie. My mom cried in the film. I may have >
A most incredible movie

This is the best 'war movie' i've ever seen, without the vularity that accompanies most others, and it's message of love and forgiveness is unparalleled and unforgettable. The production of this movie is masterful. This movie should be
Great heroic movie.

This movie was great. I love war time heroic movies, even when I know the heroes will probably die in the end. The portrayal of the LDS character as an average Joe, keeping his standards in a war zone, but not doing so in a preachy, chest beating way was well done. All the characters were well done. My only complaint was that it was too short. But, then I love long movies.
Borrow it First

I enjoyed the film and the story it conveyed about the life of a group of soldiers in WWII. However, I was a bit disturbed about the level of violence shown for a PG-13 rating. The eerie music in some scenes also contributed to the movie making me feel uncomfortable. I bought this movie due to the other reviews on this site and was quite disappointed with the hipe that the other reviews created. If you want to see it, borrow it from the video store as it is not a movie that I could see many people regularly watching.
well done movie

This is a good drama and it is done very well that it seems like you're watching a non-Mormon movie. A very moving story.
Uplifting & Powerful

This was a wonderful movie. Even though, the writers' toned down the actual event (from the directors' commentary), it was very uplifting in terms of what our Heavenly Father can do to protect the righteous even when they are following unrighteous leaders. It was also uplifting to see Church members living their religion in the midst of battle and being Christ-like to an 'enemy' that was a member of the Church.

Saints and Soldiers is an amazing film--great cinematography, great acting, and a great story. It is amazing that these filmmakers were able to do so much with such a small budget.

Great movie! The 'LDS theme' of the movie was not over-powering. It perfectly fit faith into the story. It is very easily a great film on it's own merits. The filming is great, and it's touching to see the struggle that the characters go through. A must own.

This was such an enjoyable movie. It was not overly powered by an LDS theme and what it did have was quite limited and pretty discreet. The movie is intense and has some pretty funny humor within it as well. All around, one I would recommend.

Great film for husband and wife but not kids
by sarah - reviewed on October 01, 2008
Awesome movie. My husband and i have enjoyed adding this to our limited collection. It has action, drama, and a moral. Though I would add that this is not one we watch with our kids. There are scenes of intense situations and the like.
YOU HAVE TO LOVE THIS MOVIE!

This is a 10 star event! It was based on actual events and I could see no acting in this movie. These guys, and 2 girls, make you feel that you are truly watching a real, live, event as it is happening. The sound track is also very well done. In surround sound you can hear the bullets whizz by. GREAT JOB all around and I don’t care if you are a man, woman, or child, it will bring tears to your eyes!
