Product Description
Music critics have called her voice "ethereal," "pristine" and "captivating." Throughout her career, Norwegian-born singing sensation Sissel has performed with a variety of artists whose styles range from folk to jazz and from rock to hip-hop. She has sung for royalty and shared stages with superstars such as Celine Dion and Sting. But for Sissel, singing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square was "a match made in heaven." In her first-ever Christmas album released in the U.S., Sissel has collaborated with the world famous Choir to offer a dazzling collection of music for the holidays.
About the Authors
The 360 members of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir represent men and women from many different backgrounds and professions and range in age from 25 to 60. They reflect a medley of unique lives and experiences and are brought together by their love for singing and their faith. Their incomparable voices are the common chord that unites to form the choral group known all over the world as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir originated in the mid-19th century in Salt Lake City. As the Latter-day Saints moved west, Church President Brigham Young included musicians among members of the advance parties. Consequently, a small choir first sang for a conference of the Church in the Salt Lake Valley on August 22, 1847, just 29 days after the first group arrived. The origins of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir may be found in the desire and commitment of early converts to include appropriate music in both sacred and secular events.
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir has appeared at 13 world’s fairs and expositions, performed at the inaugurations of five U.S. presidents, and sung for numerous worldwide telecasts and special events. Five of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s recordings have achieved “gold record” and two have achieved “platinum record” status. The most popular was the Grammy-Award-winning 1959 release of “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” with the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Heavenly, by far my favorite..
by Alicia Williams - reviewed on October 04, 2007
WOW! This CD brings back all the chills and joy of the actual performance last year. Sissel's voice is comparable to Enya's, the ethereal nature of her voice is just as skin-tingling if not more. 'Like an Angel Passing' has become a family favorite, along with 'Angels, from the Realms of Glory' and 'Vitae Lux'. In addition to traditional Christmas songs, the CD also features several selections from Norway and Germany, sung in Sissel's native language. The instruments are heavenly, from pan flutes and bells to serene choral backgrounds. WOW, WOW, WOW.. I cannot praise this album enough.
The voice of an angel
by Customer - reviewed on December 07, 2007
Sissel has the voice of an angel from the realms of glory. She truly blesses us with her presence on this magnificent album. I would have given it five stars if they had included the Choir's beautiful rendition of Away in a Manger (it's on the DVD) instead of the annoying nursery-rhyme Sunny Bank.
Breath-taking

I have an extensive collection of Christmas music and this CD has become my favorite. The arrangements are brilliant. Sissel's voice is beautiful and clear. My 16 month old and 3 year old grandsons grabbed a pillow and laid down in front of the CD player listening. They have asked me to play it for them 3 days in a row. Every time I hear it, it sounds fresh and knew! I highly recommend this CD!

As I commented on the DVD, Sissel's voice is so angelic it brought tears to my eyes. The CD is a must have to bring that spiritual part of Christmas into your home.
Best Ever Christmas Concert

This is the best ever Christmas Tabernacle Choir concert! Yes, Sissel is everything that other reviewers have written, but the choir, orchestra, and bell ringers together create an unforgettable musical experience.

Two Grammy Nominations
by Robert - reviewed on December 07, 2007
'Spirit of the Season' was just nominated for TWO GRAMMY AWARDS. This just attests to what a great album this is. The biggest reason why this album is so great is the vocalist Sissel.
What a comfort it is to me.

I just arrived home from the hospital after surgery. I loaded the Spirit of the Season on my ipod and listened to it constantly as I recuperated. The clarity and beauty of Sissel's voice was very inspirational and comforting to me. That first evening after surgery as I laid in bed glancing at the lights from the city beyond, the beautiful voice of Sissel filled my ears as she sang--- Like An Angel Passing Through My Room came on. Wow was it powerful and comforting to me. I still get chills.
Sissel's voice embraces you and takes you on a wonderous ride into a Peaceful Place we don't often get to experience.

Heard the voice and was absolutely spellbound. Sissel has the God given ability to reach out and touch the soul of her listeners. This is truly a gift and to be able to experience this 'touch' is beyond words. Her voice is a medium through which an incredible PEACE embraces the listener. You know when you hear that voice!!!
I love MOTAB
by Rachel - reviewed on October 23, 2008
I absolutely love the Mormon Tabernacle Choir-we have so many of their CDs in our home and play them so frequently that our 2 and 4 year old know all the words, which is way cute when the songs are more obscure (especially selections from the Messiah). This CD has some great songs on it, and they have become family favorites!
