Attractive watch with flaws

by Gary - reviewed on May 22, 2011

I bought this watch because it looked VERY nice. In my opinion, of the five models released together under the George Q. Cannon & Sons label, it is the one to buy. When I went to my local Deseret Book to purchase it, I closely examined each of the five new watches. While all of the designs are attractive, they are all, including this one, FAR more cheaply made than ANY comparably priced Invicta, Seiko or Swiss Legend. Whatever company Deseret Book chose to mass produce these (probably in China), they are not particularly good at fine detail. As hard as DB has tried over the last few years to improve the quality of its leather books and how hard they have tried to class up their stores and offerings, I was surprised that they didn't take more time and care to make their first line of watches of the highest caliber. The first indication of this was the pungent smell of the faux leather cases the watches come in. I was looking forward to keeping my new watch in its fancy gift box, but the awful odor permeated my closet within a day so everything in it reeks of the unpleasant smell. Needless to say, the box is now in the garage. Luckily, its unpleasant odor didn't stay on the watch for more than a day or two. The second indicator of lower than hoped for quality came while trying to remove the links from the poorly finished band. Not since I bought a $20 Geneva 15 years ago have I been so unimpressed with the quality of a watch band. I may go to Wal-Mart and replace it with one of their $8.00 generics - it is that disappointing. The good news is that the watch keeps good time and I really do like look of its dial/face, even if the overall quality doesn't warrant even half of its $80.00 price tag. Overall, I would give this watch a 5 out of 10, mostly for the initial impression of the nicely detailed dial.

Very Nice for the Price.

by Anthony R - reviewed on June 06, 2011

Very nice watch for the price!! I saw the watch in the ad and thought, "We'll it can't be that great for the price"--WOW was I wrong. This is just as good as any watch in that price range (e.g.,Fossil) I own, yet has more functionality than those I've been shopping for. If you're looking for a good watch in this price range you will not be disappointed. I also bought the Brigham as a gift (has an exchangeable watch band).
