Tennis Shoes Adventure Series, Vol. 1: Tennis Shoes among the Nephites (Paperback)
Jim Hawkins has a bad attitude. What's more, he enjoys having a bad attitude about everything — especially about church.
Garth Plimpton is a fanatic. He's spent so much time studying the scriptures and thick books on archeology that he can't carry on a normal conversation with other kids. That's why they consider him a nerd.
Through an unusual chain of events, these two opposites become fast friends. It all began when Garth told Jim a simple truth:
“They really existed, you know.”
“Who?” Jim asked.
“Nephites,” Garth replied. “Every character in the Book of Mormon ate, slept, died, was buried . . .”
That statement, taken for granted before, would soon echo deeply in the two boys' minds — because they were on the trail of a chilling secret. At the root of this secret was a faded Indian legend that old men told children to make their eyes grow big. As Garth and Jim put the pieces of the puzzle together, they accidentally stumble upon a mysterious passageway hurling them into another world — an ancient American world.
Join Jim, Garth, and Jim's pesky little sister, Jennifer, as they journey in a land where the names Helaman, Teancum, and Captain Moroni are more than just words on a page. A world where danger and suspense are a way of life. . .

About the Author
CHRIS HEIMERDINER is the writer/director of the movie “Passage to Zarahemla” and the songwriter/producer of the album “Whispered Visions”. However, he is the best known as the author of the popular Tennis Shoes Among the Nephites Adventure series as well as “Passage to Zarahemla.” Chris has imagined a tale that bridges modern times with the world of The Book of Mormon. He has published a novel sequel to “Passage” entitled “Escape From Zarahemla” which ties together the “Zarahemla” world with the “Tennis Shoes” world in a unique and fascinating way. He has also recently published Muckwhip’s Guide to Capturing the Latter-day Soul—a modern satire featuring a fictional devil named Muckwhip striving to “bring down” one specific member of the LDS faith. Next Chris will publish another (the 12th) book in the Tennis Shoes series entitled “Thorns of Glory.” Chris is the father of five children and five step children. His second oldest son, Ammon, is currently serving a mission in Columbia, South America. The joys of Chris’s life are his children and his eternal companion, Emily.

This is the first book in an amazing series about the Book of Mormon. It is a Historical Fiction, where 3 kids go back in time to Book of Mormon times. They meet Moroni, Helaman, Gid, Lehi, Amalackiah, Ammon, and more! Thanks Chris Heimerdinger! We had a lot of fun reading it as a family.

I enjoyed every thing I read. It's inspirational, excellent, entertaining, tense, and in no need of redo. It is all I need to keep me STRANDED in the scriptures. I love it and now I love the scriptures, too. It would mean the world to me if it was a movie along with the rest of the series. You go Chris, go for the opportunity, just like Passage to Zarahemla did.
Only The Beginning

This book is only the beginning of a great adventure series. These books catch your attention and will make you want to read forever. They have a little bit of everything adventure, suspense, romance and comedy.

This first installment in the series introduces you to characters you will come to love more and more with each book. Chris Heimerdinger creates them to be extremely realistic, and I find myself identifying with them. Also, being able to "meet" characters from the Book of Mormon has made them so much more real to me and has actually made me think more deeply about each of them as I do my scripture reading.

My sister's family bought this book on CD. We listened to it as family on our way to and from camping. I had never read the Tennis Shoes among the Nephites series, but quickly was brought into the story plotline. It is a good book for adventure and fun. The author does a good job describing the situation and location and allowing the rest to go to your immagination. I am ready to purchase and listen to the next CD / book in the series. Great for the family ... including advanced kids and teens!

Tennis Shoes is a great way to learn about the standard works-the fictional characters draw you in and the scripture figures come to life. These books will incite conversations that can only lead to learning. This is seriously a must have for any family. The audio books are great too because Chris Heimerdinger reads them himself with a few additional voices and really does the characters justice!

I loved this book! The whole series is great. I'm a 15 year old girl, and these books are one of my favorite series. Anyone and EVERYONE should read these. I'm excited for the 11th one to come out. :)

Hi my name is Maurie Cox. No its not like mowrie that's just weird. Ok so I'm a seventeen year old girl with a testimony of the LDS church. I've always enjoyed the scriptures, but these books made them REAL. They breathed the life in them I had not seen beforehand. His insights into life, how Satan tempts us, and how the Spirit guides us are spectacular! Not only did I learn from them, and feel the spirit so strongly, but I fell in love with the characters and their suspenseful, romantic, action-packed, nail-biting, tear-jerking, and spiritual stories. If you ever want to have a taste of what it may be like to stand in the savior's presence, read at least until the fourth book. When Christ visits the Nephites. The descriptions take your breathe away. This well-written series is worth the line of ten books. You will NOT be disappointed.
