When it comes to chickens, Hank Smith knows a lot more than he used to. Before he met his future father-in-law, Hank’s experience with chickens was pretty much limited to the fingerlickin’ good kind or those little nugget things you dip in sauce. But Hank learned that chickens have a “pecking order” within the flock and that at the bottom of this order is often found a scrawny, pathetic bird just struggling to survive. Hank also learned that people can be a lot like chickens — especially in junior high and high school. In order to make themselves more “popular,” teens often break into little groups and pick on someone who doesn’t quite fit in. In this entertaining and eye-opening talk, Brother Smith describes how his life was changed by the example of someone who didn’t follow the flock, but instead reached out to others to help them feel loved. He shares what he calls the “Laura Larsen Challenge” as he invites others to rise above the pecking order and be nice!

About the Author
Hank Smith teaching in the Religious Education Department at BYU and is a favorite speaker for Especially for Youth, Best of Especially for Youth, and BYU Education Week. Hank and his wife, Sara, were both born and raised in St. George, Utah. They are the parents of one daughter and two sons. Brother Smith enjoys running marathons and eating lots and lots of ice cream (which is why he runs marathons). More than anything else, he loves being at home spending all day with his wife and children.

My 13 year old son listens to this over and over on his ipod. He loves it. I can hear him laughing out loud. He has shared the spiritual insights and the message with me. Would highly recommend!

I went to the best of efy thing where he gave this talk, and my time there turned into both the most hilarious and spiritual time of my life! it seemes like this talk was writen just for me! He is officially my favorite person ever now. I love him so much.

Brother Smith is the best seminary teacher I've had in all my years of seminary. I'll never forget anything he's EVER done for me and every student who steps foot in that seminary building. This CD is truly inspiring and I absolutely love it! I've never met a better person (of course, other than the prophet) to say what he says, the way he says it. I highly recommend this CD.

Hank, what a great CD. Who would have thought when we were all in seminary you would be making me laugh and cry at the same time. It leaves a message that teens and adults need.

This is an awesome talk by Hank Smith. His personal stories that he shares in this talk are funny and true. There is a great message in this talk. I would recommend this to all ages. I think everyone would enjoy this talk on CD.

I purchased Hank Smith's, Be Who You Are around Christmas time, the next time I was at Deseret Book I purchased the remainder of his CD's. Our family really enjoys the talks. Additionally, I am the Young Men's President in our ward; we listen to these CD's anytime we are traveling. The YM enjoy the CD's as much as the leaders. Highly Recommended!
