Product Description

How did it feel to walk daily across many miles of plains? What were some of the joys as well as the trials? Trek: A Nashville Tribute to the Pioneers explores the lives of the Saints after they left Nauvoo. Hear the pioneers' story as you've never heard it before. Experience Porter Rockwell's heartache as he longs for the happy days with Joseph. Imagine a beautiful day on the plains, sun shining warmly and wind blowing gently through the grass. Feel the joy of safely reaching the Salt Lake Valley, as well as the sorrow for loved ones left behind. Understand the pioneers' story through powerful songs and narration.

Trek is the sequel to 2005's Joseph: A Nashville Tribute to the Prophet, seen in concert by more than 100,000 people across the United States. Trek: A Nashville Tribute to the Pioneers continues the story, with world-class songs and musicians.

Not as good as I'd expected

by Amber - reviewed on September 26, 2008

I had heard nothing but rave reviews about this CD and its predecessor, so when my missionary-brother wrote and asked for it, I didn't hesitate to run out and buy it for him (and listen it before sending it). While I did enjoy it, I didn't like it as much as I'd expected to or hoped to, based on everything I'd heard about it. The lyrics are beautiful and moving, so I guess it was the country music that didn't get to me, even though I typically like country music.

A Big Disapointment

by Customer - reviewed on July 28, 2007

I really enjoyed the Nashville Tribute to Joseph, but The Trek is just downright horrible. Some of the songs are ok, a few are just downright annoying, but none of them are great. I was really looking forward to this one, but was very disappointed.

Get it...but be sure you have the Joseph one first!

by Whitney - reviewed on December 03, 2007

While not quite as good as Joseph, this CD is still amazing. I love feeling the Pioneer spirit. It's a great thing for preparing youth for Trek!

An Awesome Masterpiece!

by Jodi - reviewed on October 24, 2007

I love it! What an awesome, spiritual, musical adventure. Jason has done an amazing job of letting us share in the journey of the pioneers, through his wonderful talent and musical abilities. I had the opportunity to participate in a 'trek' this summer from Martin's Cove to Rock Creek Hollow. Listening to this CD took me right back to that experience. Thank you for this gift. I can't stop listening.

Music great, narration not so great

by Gaylene - reviewed on May 11, 2008

Music is great, but the narration is not as good as in Joseph, A Nashville Tribute to the prophet. I always skip right over the narration.

Loved this CD

by Deanna - reviewed on August 07, 2007

When I first heard this CD I THOUGHT that I was disappointed. I loved the Joseph CD and felt this was a let down. However, after listening a couple of more times I love, love, love this CD. WOW!!! What an amazing and inspiring collection. The spirit that you feel when you listen, compares only to visiting Martin's Cove in Wyoming and walking the long sacred path to the cove. Thank You Jason and Dan. I am not a real country fan, however I will continue to buy whatever you write. Keep up the great work.

If "Joseph" was a 10, "trek" is an 11!!!

by Nick - reviewed on August 16, 2007

I really didn't think Joseph could be topped, but Jason Deere and Co did it again!!! I never really got emotional or cried on the first CD, but the very first time I heard 'Somewhere there's a mountain', 'Sleep', and 'I must have loved you before', there were tears in my eyes as I was driving to work listening to this on my iPod. The CD has many fun songs that people of all ages will love- my favorite is 'crack of a whip'. 'wolves' is very poignant as well... BUY THIS! You won't regret it!!!

My children and I love this CD, its all they want to listen to. I spent some time in Martins Cove this summer, and loved the experience there and the feeling of what the pioneers went through, and this CD just keeps all those feelings fresh and touching. The songs on this CD were very well done, and very inspiring! We love every single song on this CD, but my childrens favorite are

Overwhelmingly good.

by Cherie - reviewed on July 30, 2007

I am a big fan of the Joseph CD, so I was excited to get this one. I listened to this for the first time while I was on a drive through the mountains. It takes a lot for a song to move me to tears but in this case it happened in an instant. As I listened to these songs, I was overwhelmed with the feeling that those pioneers really lived; that they had hearts and dreams, and that they were driven by incredible faith. I have ancestors who crossed the plains and I don't take these things lightly. All of the songs are just so real. I also just genuinely love the way the songs sound and the choices of instruments and vocalists. I highly recommend it, especially if you've been on a pioneer trek, are interested in church history, of if you just love country music.

AMAZING!

by Josh - reviewed on August 29, 2007

I was able to see Jason Deere and Co. perform 'Joseph', and to be honest, wasn't too impressed at first glance. It was the first time hearing the music and I didn't really know what to expect. As time went on, I came to love the songs on the CD and it became a favorite, and that's saying something for someone who dislikes country music. I couldn't wait to get my hands on 'Trek' because I went on a stake-pioneer trek of my own this summer. It was everything I expected and more. 'Sleep' is very touching and emotional. I really connected with it, having gone on my trek. I also really liked 'One Who Understands', 'Wide Enough', 'Somewhere There's A Mountain'... okay, I pretty much love the ENTIRE ALBUM. I think the only song I don't care for is the a cappella one about Porter Rockwell. Haven't really gotten into it, but I may warm up to it. And the final track, 'The Testimony of Sarah Pea Rich', is a simple, but very touching and powerful testimony of one who experienced the trek firsthand. This CD is amazing and better than 'Joseph'! It is definetly worth your money!

Missionaries Love It In Santa Rosa

Well, I just loved it. I truly felt like I was walking on the plains as I listened. I loved the country music mixed with the truthful stories of our rich heritage.

A good buy for three to five of the songs.

by chris - reviewed on May 25, 2008

I like this format, but only a few of the actual songs. There are some good songs, perhaps three or four. One of the bad songs is a man singing without music. He probably sounds great with musical accompaniment and far better than me in the shower but it doesn't belong on the album. Somewhere there's a mountain is fabulous. The girls do a great job. God is Good and Crack of the whip are fun to listen to as well. The Indian song seemed out of place. I had been waiting a long time for an album like the Nashville tribute to Joseph and was looking forward to Trek, but I question my next Jason Deere purchase. But Jason, please don't include any occapella.

Oh Yeah!!!

by Josh - reviewed on January 02, 2008

I absolutely loved it! Listening to this along with Joseph allows one to feel as many must have felt during those actual time periods. It gives does a wonderful job portraying many of the trials of that era in the history of the church, and it does it through music! Good music! Music Kids would listen too! It is awesome!!!

Trekking to Temple

by Customer - reviewed on September 13, 2008

I love this CD, and I love to listen to it while I drive to the temple. Its a 3-5 hour drive to the Temple for me depending on if I'm going to the Nauvoo or Chicago temple. This CD is the perfect thing to listen to while making my trek to the temple.

Great CD!

by Jalaire - reviewed on October 29, 2009

We received this CD as a gift. I was surprised that my three children (10, 12, 14) love this CD as much as they do. They request it in the car, play in as they get ready for school, and again before bed. And this has gone on for months and months. They feel the Spirit and ask lots of questions about the pioneers. I also like the music...or they wouldn't be allowed to play it as often as they do! I didn't realize until today that there is another CD like this. I'll need to get that one, too.
