A best-selling composer and arranger, Lex de Azevedo is best known for such musical compositions as the score for the animated motion picture The Swan Princess, the musicals Saturday's Warrior and My Turn on Earth, as well as many instrumental albums. Variations on a Sacred Theme is an instrumental recording of well-known hymns, arranged in a neo-classical, chamber music style. Among the eleven selections on the compact disc are such hymns as "All Creatures of Our God and King," "A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief," "I Know That My Redeemer Lives," "Lead, Kindly Light," and "O My Father." The compositions feature piano solo, duets for piano and violin, trios for piano, cello and flute, string quartet, and small chamber orchestra. Using the classical form, Lex brings a contemporary touch to these pieces through the rhythms and harmonies.
