There are many members who seem to have it all together, but this book is another reminder that we all struggle with challenges to varying degrees and at different times. When the author was serving as a mission president, this leader for hundreds, lost hope that he could do what was required of him. Digging deep to pull himself up, we can learn how key the Savior is in making us whole. Love this book, would recommend it to everyone!

Most authentic struggle with depression and the atonement that I have ever read
by Customer - reviewed on September 30, 2008
I have read many books on depression, the atonement, grace etc., but none have struck me the way this one did. Dr. Top's experiences with depression as a mission president were told with such authenticity and love for the Savior that I couldn't put it down. His inspiration and counsel came from hard core experience and pain, and the truth behind his words could not be more heart-felt. I have spent thousands of dollars on therapy and self-help books, and had a life-altering experience with this book. I am thankful for the author's courage to share such profound pain and healing on such a public level. I have already shared the book with several friends. Definitely a worthwhile read.

I just began reading Bro. Top's book. It's so amazing. I'd not thought of letting the Savior rescue me. I love and have given it as gifts. It is one I will read and re-read. I've already begun working on some of his suggestions and can say it has made a difference. This book is a must read for everyone.

I have been wondering why I am not happy and why I keep insisting on going it alone. Thanks to Bro. Top, I don't have to wonder anymore. My deepest thanks to him.

This really hit home, as I have struggled with depression myself...I appreciate the author's honesty in sharing his struggles with the readers. The book made me stop and realize that maybe I wasn't letting the Savior help me through my burdens like I thought I was. I am glad to have read it and will heed its advice in the future.
I've read it twice!

This book taught me how to take the hand of the Savior when I was afraid to. We learn so much about the Atonement in relation to sin; but we don't learn enough about its relation to the pain and suffering that is associated with our earthly life. Peter may have started to sink upon the water, but all I could do was the "dead girl float." It saved my life. I've read it twice and I continue to take counsel in it as I'm trying to get back to dry land.
Finally, a book that understands

This book is awesome, especially for those who are seeking help with depression. Unfortunately, our culture doesn't understand mental illness very well. This book does. And gives excellent, practical solutions on how building a strong relationship with the Savior can help us deal with this challenge. For me, it was a breath of fresh air, to see someone go through similar challenges and learn how they were able to get through it and do quite well. It gives me hope that I can do the same with the Savior's help.
