Recently moved to upstate New York from the comfort of their Vermont homestead, the Benjamin Steed family makes their way into the established social structure of Palmyra. In their attempt to settle peacefully into the new community they find the help that they have hired to clear their land is at the center of a religious controversy — a controversy that threatens to tear the family apart.
Two of the Steed brothers contend for the favor of a wealthy merchant's daughter and they find themselves on opposite sides of the religious question. As the family struggles to smooth the contention they find themselves twisted into deeper issues of family loyalty and the pursuit of truth.

I wish there were more Work and the Glory movies. I have read the whole series of books and have seen the movies. I enjoyed them very much. There inspired me to go to the source and learn more about church history. Although the people are fictional I could see people I know in many of the characters.
One of the best LDS films

Defenitely one of the best LDS films I have ever seen. Whether you have read the books or not you will love this movie! I am purchasing this one and hope to have a collection of all of the films in the future. Very Well Done!!!

We have also read the entire series, and although the movie cannot capture everything from the book, it was done very well! This was one of the finest movies we've ever seen, and can't wait for the entire series to be filmed (please....)!
no close caption
by Leanne - reviewed on May 11, 2005
The movie is not closed captioned. I am deaf, and that frustrates me, because the greater audience can listen to it. Please make efforts to add the close captioning on to the movie. I would appreciate it greatly!
It´s glorious!

I just read the first two books in 3 days. I went to the Deseret Book store in Mesa, AZ to buy the next few volumes on paperback. They were out of stock at the time so I bought the DVD instead. Actually I bought both 'The Pillar of Light' and 'American Zion'(volume 2 of the book). I can't express how wonderful the movies were. They brought the books to life. They show how our early sisters and brothers had to struggle such horrible hardships for believing in our Prophet Joseph Smith. Whenever I feel I'm struggling, I think back to the early believers in our faith and realize what I face daily is nothing compared to the hatred, mockery, scorn etc... that they faced daily for our Heavenly Father, for believing that Joseph Smith was his prophet, that Jesus Christ's church and teachings were restored on earth thorugh Joseph. The books and movies are a must read & see for all. In fact I have the next 4 volumes on order and waiting for shipment.

Haven't read the books - liked the movie
by Morgan - reviewed on October 02, 2008
I was pleasantly surprised about this movie. I haven't read the books or become a Work in the Glory quoter at church. But, I was easily caught up in the drama and acting of this movie. It was fun and it was captivating. I know that the information is part history and part fiction, but I feel like I learned a bit more. 4 Stars.
Inspirational Movie

This movie just makes the books that much better. It puts things into perspective and helps you understand this time a little better. Great LDS film. I would recommend this for the entire family.

This is the one to watch
by Rachel - reviewed on October 22, 2008
Out of the three work and the glory movies, this is the only one that is really really well done-the script and acting is definitely up to par and as a major fan of the book, I was pretty impressed with this movie. Too bad the next two weren't as well done.
A tremendous testament of LDS

I could not put these books down. A wonderful testament of the LDS belief, and history. It made me wish I would have been there to experience the beginnings of the church. I wish there were more books like this series.
