DeseretBook.com Auctions / Help / Giving and Receiving Feedback

How do I leave feedback?

You can leave feedback on any auction that you have completed, either as successful seller or winning bidder, by clicking on the "Account" button at the top of the page.

What is the purpose of feedback?

Feedback is a way for Auctions.Deseretbook.com users to police themselves. Think of it as a mini Better Business Bureau. Through using feedback, users are able to accumulate an "online reputation", by successfully completing honest and accurate auctions, either as buyer or as seller. Positive feedback ratings are a form of endorsement that give buyers and sellers some information about one another, even if they have never done business together before. Negative feedback ratings can serve as a warning for others that a seller or buyer is not always honest or easy to work with.

How does the feedback rating work?

It's simple. A positive comment earns a user 1 point, a neutral earns no points, and a negative costs the user a point. This way, the feedback rating should provide a rough estimate as to what type of experiences others have had with this user in the past. A more detailed account of the past comment can be found by viewing a user's feedback history.

When should I give positive feedback?

It is generally considered good auction etiquette to leave positive feedback after every auction that goes well, and in which you feel that the other party met or exceeded your expectations. Remember that when you leave positive feedback, you are not only doing the recipient a favor, but you are helping every other user by providing them with the means by which they can gauge the reliability of that user.

When should I give negative feedback?

Since feedback cannot be retracted, negative feedback should always be given sparingly. It is highly recommended that you try to work out any problems that you have with the other party before leaving negative feedback. Although it is important to let people know if they are dealing with a possible problem-user, problems are more often due to a miscommunication, and are things that can be resolved, short of blemishing the record of someone who is legitimately trying to be fair.

Please remember to keep all feedback in the spirit of honest evaluations. Feedback that is deemed to be frivolous, or by parties not actually involved in auctions with the evaluated user will be removed by Auctions.DeseretBook.com.
