DeseretBook.com Auctions / Help / Listing Policies

What am I not allowed to list?

First of all, Auctions.DeseretBook.com reserves the right to remove any listing that we feel is not legal, not allowed by our regulations, or not appropriate, regardless of whether or not it is specifically listed below. Should your listing be removed, edited, or re-classified for any reason, we will attempt to contact you, and will refund any applicable Pre-Auction fees that have been accrued for that listing.

Items that are not allowed include:

  • Items not in harmony with LDS standards
  • Illegal items
  • Stolen property
  • Human organs
  • Livestock or animal parts
  • Firearms and certain other weapons
  • Controlled substances
  • Licenses, IDs, etc.
  • Counterfeit items
Although laws governing copyright, trademarks, and other publishing rights are constantly changing, please be aware that infringing upon the copyrights of others can result in criminal or civil liability, and consequent legal prosecution. Although Auctions.DeseretBook.com is not able to accurately judge the legality or appropriateness of each individual copyright issue and situation, we will do our best to keep our site clean from questionable sales and auctions.

Can I list several duplicate auctions?

If a seller has several duplicate items that he wishes to list, but opts not to use the dutch auction format, that is allowed. The only requirement is that, since each auction is an individual agreement to sell, the seller must actually have one item per auction that he is prepared to sell.

Can I link to another site as part of my item description?

Although linking from your listing to another website is generally allowed, it is normally discouraged, and in some cases not allowed at all. Auctions.DeseretBook.com does not allow links to other auction sites, or other commerce sites that are selling the same or similar merchandise. We reserve the right to remove or edit any listings found to contain such links.

What if I list an auction, then sell the item elsewhere?

By listing an auction on the Auctions.DeseretBook.com forum, you are agreeing to sell that item to the highest bidder. If you think there is the possibility that you may sell the item somewhere else, please do not list it on our site.

What else is not allowed?

Other things that are not allowed are techniques that are not in keeping with the spirit of an auction, or attempts to avoid paying normal Auction.DeseretBook.com fees.

They include, but are not limited to:

  • Indicating in the Item Description that there are multiple items for sale, but listing the auction as a regular, rather than dutch auction.
  • Selling items that require additional purchases or have other non-auction-related requirements. Each auction should be autonomous, functioning as a stand-alone sale. (If one bidder wins multiple auctions by the same seller, it is permissable to offer a lesser shipping charge if the items are shipped together.)
  • Abnormally high shipping charges, in order to compensate for a lower selling price.
  • Auctions with nothing for sale. Listings that exist solely to channel traffic elsewhere will not be tolerated.
  • Indicating an "informal" reserve price, when no formal reserve price was given.
We reserve the right to remove or edit any listings that attempt to use the above-mentioned techniques.

What if I'm not sure if something is allowed or not?

Ask us. We're here to help, not to rain on everyone's parade. The rules and regulations that we have are simply to try to protect everyone involved, and create a friendly and inviting forum. If you have things you would like to do, but are concerned with whether or not they are allowed, hopefully we can work together to resolve them.
