Russell M. Nelson: Father, Surgeon, Apostle by Elder Spencer J. Condie. Deseret Book, 2003, 479 pages. Elder Nelson is a spiritual giant, yet he was once one of the boys who didn't regularly come to church. He was sent to church by his parents, but frequently he would sneak off and play football with his friends and return home when Sunday School was over. His life as a youth, his courting days at the Univ of Utah and marriage proposal in the pea patch, his being a member of the team of doctors of the first open heart surgery, relate the story of his life in this wonderful biography. From the dust jacket: "At the zenith of his medical career, just before being called to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in April 1984, Dr. Nelson performed 360 surgical proceduresin one year. But like Peter and Andrew of old, Dr. Nelson "straightway" left his nets and followed the Savior's injuction to become a fisher of men."
