About This Item

Award-winning hardbound classic by Juanita Brooks, famous LDS historian, about life in Southern Utah from 1881 - 1970. This book chronicles the life of her husband Will Brooks. The book was published by Taggart & Company in a limited edition of 2,500 (stated) so is obviously scarce. "It is at once the tale of a young Tom Sawyer in an early Mormon settlement, yet the saga of a strong-willed, courageous man who feared none but loved all." In the book "He vividly relives many colorful memories of his later life. His first clash as a teacher with the class tough. Watching a Navajo Indian, bewildered and unbelieving, in the man's first experience with Alexander Graham Bell's mysterious talking machine. His encounters as sheriff with notorious gunmen and Prohibition bootleggers. ...Rancher, farmer, storekeeper, teacher, sheriff, postmaster, he had been them all. ...Will Brooks never found time to grow old. Happy dispositioned, engaged and involved in every religious and civic enterprise in his town, Will left a big piece of his heart in every one who ever crossed his path." The book is divided into 17 chapters with titles like: My Town -People I Knew - I Become a Man - Leaving Home - School at the BYU - I Return to Dixie - Family Tragedy etc. This is a classic book that every LDS collector should own. This copy is in near new condition--only minor edge wear to the dj.
