Elder Richard G. Scott, called as a General Authority in 1977, became a member of the Quorum of the Twelve in 1988. Before his call, he’d served as president in Argentine North Mission and as a regional representative. He received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and completed post-graduate work in nuclear engineering. He played a key role in the application of nuclear power to naval vessels and civilian power plants. He and his wife, the late Jeanene Watkins, are the parents of seven children.
