George D. Durrant was born and raised in American Fork, Utah. He has served in many capacities with the LDS Church Educational System. For several years he was the director of Priesthood Genealogy for the church.

He served for three years as president of the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah, and he has taught religion at Brigham Young University.

He is married to the former Marilyn Burnham
