Clement C. Moore, July 15, 1779 – July 10, 1863
Moore’s poem “A Visit from St. Nicholas” first appeared in New York’s “Troy Sentinel” on December 23, 1823. Moore was first credited as the author in 1828 in the “New York Book of Poetry”. According to legend, Moore wrote “A Visit from St. Nicholas” better known as “The Night Before Christmas” on Christmas Eve in 1822.
