One hundred and forty-four years ago, Elder George Q. Cannon realized that the Saints wanted more access to literature that reinforced their values. He knew a single hub was needed for the gathering and distribution of this literature, and so he opened a retail bookstore to be the center for his publishing operation in Salt Lake City—Deseret Book.
Today books come in many different forms and accessibility, but the desire for uplifting material has not changed. Deseret Bookshelf was created with this vision at heart, and its goal is to carry Elder Cannon’s hard work and legacy on into the digital age. Thanks to advancements in technology, we are able to further his efforts and spread his vision across the earth in a manner that was once only a distant dream.
