Lund. In <i>The Undaunted,</i> he transports readers first to the coal mines of Yorkshire, then across the ocean and the plains to the territory of Utah, where, even in 1879, there is pioneering to be done.</p>\r\n\r\n<p>A little-known and perhaps even less-appreciated chapter in the Church's history comes to life in this gripping story of a stalwart group of Saints called to create a settlement to serve as a buffer between the established communities of Utah and the lawless frontier of the Four Corners area. Their challenge will be enormous - but the biggest part of it just may be getting there in the first place.</p>\r\n\r\n<p>Skillfully interweaving historical figures and events with fictional characters, Gerald Lund takes us through the Hole in the Rock and over miles of uncharted country that even today is impassable without all-terrain vehicles. His account of the adventure, romance, and sacrifices of these undaunted pioneers will resonate with readers who love a good story as well as those who want to better understand the incomparable legacy and unconquerable faith of those valiant Saints.</p>\r\n\r\n\n  </div>\n\t<br /><br />\n\t<a href=\"/store/toggle_tabs/70165?type=review\" class=\"toggle_tabs_link\" data-remote=\"true\" rel=\"nofollow\" type=\"review\">Read Reviews &rsaquo;</a>\n\t<br /><a href=\"/store/toggle_tabs/70165?type=excerpt\" class=\"toggle_tabs_link\" data-remote=\"true\" rel=\"nofollow\" type=\"excerpt\">Read Excerpt &rsaquo;</a>\n\t\n\t\n\t</div>\n <div class=\"mini_reviews\">\n  <h3>Customer Reviews</h3>\n  (18) total reviews<br />\n      <img alt=\"Rating_star\" src=\"http://cdn3.deseretbook.com/assets/rating_star-865fe30e1b1c2725430a42c1943e5dd5.png\" />\n    <img alt=\"Rating_star\" src=\"http://cdn3.deseretbook.com/assets/rating_star-865fe30e1b1c2725430a42c1943e5dd5.png\" />\n    <img alt=\"Rating_star\" src=\"http://cdn3.deseretbook.com/assets/rating_star-865fe30e1b1c2725430a42c1943e5dd5.png\" />\n    <img alt=\"Rating_star\" src=\"http://cdn3.deseretbook.com/assets/rating_star-865fe30e1b1c2725430a42c1943e5dd5.png\" />\n    <img alt=\"Rating_star\" src=\"http://cdn3.deseretbook.com/assets/rating_star-865fe30e1b1c2725430a42c1943e5dd5.png\" />\n \n  <p class=\"rate_me topspace\"><a href=\"/users/login\">Login to write a review &rsaquo;</a><br /><br />\n  <img alt=\"Horz_line\" src=\"http://cdn2.deseretbook.com/assets/horz_line-0ab467abbb4056887a86d9853d23abcb.gif\" /><br /><br /></p>\n  <div class=\"clearme\"></div>\n      <img alt=\"Rating_star\" src=\"http://cdn3.deseretbook.com/assets/rating_star-865fe30e1b1c2725430a42c1943e5dd5.png\" />\n    <img alt=\"Rating_star\" src=\"http://cdn3.deseretbook.com/assets/rating_star-865fe30e1b1c2725430a42c1943e5dd5.png\" />\n    <img alt=\"Rating_star\" src=\"http://cdn3.deseretbook.com/assets/rating_star-865fe30e1b1c2725430a42c1943e5dd5.png\" />\n    <img alt=\"Rating_star\" src=\"http://cdn3.deseretbook.com/assets/rating_star-865fe30e1b1c2725430a42c1943e5dd5.png\" />\n    <img alt=\"Rating_star\" src=\"http://cdn3.deseretbook.com/assets/rating_star-865fe30e1b1c2725430a42c1943e5dd5.png\" />\n <br />\n  <h3>This is one book you won&#x27;t be able to put down.</h3>\n  <p class=\"txt\">Natalie, UT - March 13, 2011</p><br />\n  <div class=\"txt\"><p>Gerald N. Lund once again, pulls the reader into a story where you feel as if you are actually standing side by side with the characters from his novel, The Undaunted.  He has an ability to mix historical figures with fiction and captures the interest of the reader fight from the beginning.   This story is about a group of Mormon saints called to travel across a barren, unsettled wilderness in order to serve as a buffer between civilization and lawlessness.  The group will travel from Escalante, Utah to Montezuma Creek, Arizona and face many challenges along the way from encounters with hostile Indians, to making roads where it seemed impossible to do.  This novel will give those who read it great details on this groups journey and tell of the courage and faith of those who were a part of the Expedition of, The-Hole-In-The-Rock.\n</p></div>\n  <img alt=\"Horz_line\" src=\"http://cdn2.deseretbook.com/assets/horz_line-0ab467abbb4056887a86d9853d23abcb.gif\" /><br />\n  <p class=\"rate_me topspace\">\n  \t<a href=\"/store/toggle_tabs/70165?type=review\" class=\"toggle_tabs_link\" data-remote=\"true\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"View All Customer Reviews.\" type=\"review\">Read customer reviews &rsaquo;</a>\n  </p>\n </div>\n"}
