This discovery guide is designed to help you and your group member discuss the things you have discovered while reading this book. Because of the spiritual nature of this book, you may want to start your meeting with a hymn or thought. Depending on the make of your group, you can either start with just a few questions or use all of them.

1. Discuss "being anchored" (p.1) with the group. What are life applications of this principle that you or others you know have experienced?

2. Elder Hafen shares 8 steps of a "disciples journey" in Chapters 1 & 2. Share with the group what you learned about the importance of the pull between darkness and light in the Plan of Salvation.

3. What are some examples of "private religious behavior" and "public religious behavoir" (p.46)? How have these effected your own testimony or someone that you know?

4. Have the group read and discuss Elder Hafen's teaching on "uncertainty" when he says, "If we are not willing to grapple with the frustration that comes from facing bravely the uncertainties we encounter, we may never develop the spiritual maturity necessary to reach our ultimate destination" (p.82).

5. Discuss the balance between "faith and reason" as Elder Hafen does in Chapter 7.

6. How have you learned to stay "spiritually anchored"?
