hey have you looked at this site?
http://www.5dollardinners.com/
she has lots of meals to make under $5.
So it is you ,dh and 3 kids.. how old are the kids?? where are you again?
We live on a really tight budget and I have that many in my family. I hear you on trying to make do..
$100. actually will go a long way think of what your kids will eat do NOT buy things they wont eat and you wont make. Don't plan on making the bread if it something you never do..
Remember to use your surroundings, like in our area there are free lunch's in the parks for kids.. we do that every day. Not my idea of the most fun..lol BUT we do it.
I always have Pasta and Sauce.. (you can make your own Sauce easy and cheap if you want or buy the store brand or hunts you can get it for .78 cents most places.)
If you buy chicken watch the sales and Right now you can get then REALLY cheap and just cook the whole thing and use it all!
We like Rice a LOT! :)
It is easy& cheap to make Cheese & chicken Enchiladas!
I make Chili Mac often an simple chili and add cooked macaroni noodles. it is a great stretcher.
I also make a lot of homemade pasta Salad. use the in season veggies..they are cheapest. depending where you live there are already farm stands open.
Make tacos.. easy and cheap. iceberg lettuce is .98 a head or less.
Walmart had Big slicing tomatoes for .99 a pound today.
We love homemade pizza.. fry some of those deer meat burgers and add spices and crumble it on top. You can often get cheese at grocery outlet stores for a very good deal. taco pizza is good too..
pizza dough
3 cups of flour
1/4 t. garlic and 1/4 t. Italian seasonings
pinch of salt
1 cup of warm water dissolve a pkt of yeast in it add 1/3 cup olive oil
kneed and let rise for 10 min(that's ALL!!) kneed again in a little flour
it goes on a pizza stone or a jelly roll pan
cook at 350* for 15 minutes..
Remember kids like top ramen soup (even in the summer, add the veggies to it!! .
You can do this have fun thinking of all the creative things you can make!~
One of my BFF's had $250 a week budget when I was working on $200 a month .. I felt like we ate better than them.
You just have to be creative! Think of what you already like to eat and find the way to make it for less :) good luck If you want any other ideas let me know:)
