I find them in a couple of places. The first is my local library has some books and they just recently started acquiring ipod format. They are limited there. The other place I get them is at audible.com.
I have also picked up books on CD from the library and uploaded those, but this is my least favorite way because each CD is a different file and it gets cumbersome.
As far as getting them on the ipod, I will say that if I can do it than anyone can. From audible, it is pretty much an auto prompt thing and it just walks you through downloading it and putting it onto iTunes.
As far as getting it from iTunes onto your iPod, I have my iTunes set up for me to manage my music manually. (under devices in iTunes, click on your ipod and then under the summary tab there is a box that you can check to manage your music manually.) To get the book from my iTunes to my iPod, I then select the book I want (it will be listed under audiobooks on the left) and then drag it to my iPod under devices (not the audiobooks on my ipod - it will automatically get placed there).
That is probably about as clear as mud. Someone else probably has a better way of doing it, but this is how I have figured out to do it.
I spend a lot of time in the car and I love being able to listen to books now.
Enjoy!
