Does cleaning, painting and packing count as part of the workout? If it does, then I can do it, too. :-)

Seriously, it sounds like a great idea. I think I will sign up with my girls, though they are planning to start running every day and I won't be doing that. I do walk three miles a day, though and know I need to do more.

I tried to find working as a nurse on the list but couldn't find it...I wonder if it counts as walking, weight lifting, etc.?

i-raven, A nurse 12hour shift should at least count for two hours of walking...probably more like 6.

I just found an article on the Advance for Nurses website that actually shows that we nurses are weight-lifters.

"According to Tuohy-Main, the cumulative weight lifted by nurses, nurse's aides, orderlies and attendants in one typical 8-hour shift is equivalent to 1.8 tons. No wonder we're exhausted and so prone to back, neck and other musculoskeletal or neurological injuries."

Hmm, who works 8-hour shifts any more? Do they even exist in nursing?

So E, how much time do we count for weight-lifting?

:)

hmmmmm....it depends on how much the patient weighs, how many you lift, how many nurses help, whether or not the patient wiggles at the wrong time, how long it takes to do it...and then by the time you are done with that math, the brain work must add a few calories too!

You are so right E, brain work should absolutely burn calories.

BTW, I signed up.

Wear a pedometer at work and earn points!!!!

I work 8 hour shifts at the civilian hospital I work at. But since most of my patients are under 6 pounds I probably can't count much weight lifting.

Good reminder to pull out the pedometer - It is amazing how much more I walk when I remember to wear mine... don't mind parking further away from the store, etc. when I know I get to count those steps!! :)

Okay, there is no reason why everyone shouldn't join this. No need to increase your activity level at all!

Just log what you already do. I just logged 5 hours of housework from working on the garage and walk in closet and laundry today.

I know this! It's because either
A) You don't feel fitnestically challenged, or
B) You aren't the President!

E... you were so close! It is because they has to be some cheerleaders. Note that I tried to provide incentive with the walk to my house followed by the swim. Not one person showed up. I thought long and hard about my motivational techniques last evening as I did my arm curls. Putting popcorn in your hand and raising your hand to your mouth as you do those arm curls works wonders. Okay... Monday evening prior to FHE the activity will be rototilling. A great workout is promised.
