Subject: Dirty towels

well our basement flooded Friday and so we used every towel in the house trying to stop it but eventually had to give up.( can you say swimming pool?)
We have been washing tons of laundry now and many of the towels are grey from the mud. we especially want to get one white one back to white as it was a gift for my son when he got baptized.

How can I get them white again? Grey is just not the cool color.

You can try the following ideas:

Add 1/2 cup of white distilled vinegar to your rinse water.

And/or add 1/2 cup of borax to wash cycle.

Or, mix together:
1 c. powdered Cascade
1 c. Clorox II
Add to 5 gallons hot water. Soak overnight.

And hanging them out in the sun can help.

Also, don't put your towels in the dryer until they are the color you want. Heat sets stains, so with any stain removal it is better to air dry until the process is done.

My mom would soak dingy whites in diluted lemon juice and hang them in the sun to dry.

Did you know that if you warm a cup of water and disolve Baking Soda into it and then mix it with some hydrogen peroxide (the exact proportions are on the internet) you've got oxyclean.
It should help.

Yep! That's us. DH has been on the local news twice now. Our drainage system is the pits on our street! If I wasn't fighting for my basement it would have been a cool storm to play in. 3 hours of non stop rain and hail bouncing off your head is really a hoot!

Flooding...is no fun...

Were U around for the Teton Flood...I was little but I had a couple aunts homes that were affected...it was a MESS...

How did the towels turn out...
