What do you all think? Are you getting vaccinated?

I know that some of the teachers at the school that I work at aren't getting the vaccine because there isn't enough information out about it or the side affects. I am not sure what I plan on doing.

It's no more deadly than the normal flu. I'm not worried about it but the vaccine really does scare me.

I will not be getting it nor having my kids get it. We never do the regular flu shot and I have heard some terrible things about it.

I think it is just like the flu...maybe a bit more uncomfortable. But the people you see dying are those who already have some type of complication.

I think the media is making it seem worse than it is.

But that is MY OPINION.

Try to teach your kids to wash their hands ALOT. I know my in my sisters school district they have special times that all the kids go to the sanitizer bottle. THey do this three times a day.

I keep a spray sanitizer in my purse and will occasionally spray it on the kids when we are out and about.

I am not too worried about it.

Heck no.

Please do your homework on this. Search out Baxter and the swine flu vaccine. It connects them to the virus as far back as 2007. Also, there was some sort of incident related the them and bird flu.

Also, it's my understanding, that those getting the vaccine now ARE the clinical trial. And, there is no recourse for the affects of this vaccine. The vaccine makers have legal immunity. Nice.

D&C 89:4 perhaps?

We are getting the regular flu vaccine--I have two asthmatics and one with a propensity for severe respiratory illness, but we are not getting vaccinated for swine flu. I have read every I can, making sure that the sources are legit and i don't like what I've seen. I will just exercise the normal precautions. Probably we will end up missing a lot of church this winter, as we always do in bad flu years (too many people think their callings are too important to stay home when they're sick) and not going out to crowded stores, etc., and we should be fine.

We have already had the swine flu go through our house. Both ds's, dh and myself had it. My dd's did not. My dd's are 11 and 1. My 11 y/o says that all kinds of classmates have been sick with it. I keep waiting for her to get it and so far nothing. I'm sure she has been exposed numerous times and still nothing. My 1 y/o drank from a cup that I had been drinking from while I'm sure I was still infected and nothing. They must have amazing immune systems.

As for the flu itself, I've had seasonal flu that was much, much worse. With swine flu, I ran a low fever for 4 days and felt drained of all energy for a few days after that. I also had a cough for about 10 days. I think I had the worst effects of anyone in my family.

No, we will NOT be getting the shot.

Have had the swine flu here. I dont feel comfortable in getting the shot. Not enough info on it. However I would hope that I would make the right decision on it. Those that are hit the hardest are those with medical problems. Especially those with asthma and those with other implications. This flu is somewhat like other flus. But it is very painful ...and leads to pneumonia. My daughter had it for about 8 days. Left with a nasty cough and ear infections. Get lots of rest and lots of liquids. Dont hurry to fast and getting back to school or work.

I am getting both flu shots this year. I have seen to many children, without previous health conditions, get gravely ill and end up in the ICU. H1N1 is also extremely hard on pregnant women. I have cared for 2 infants whose mothers died from H1N1, again with no pre-exhisting conditions.

However, I will be getting the injection (which is a dead virus) rather than the nasal spray mist (which is a weakend live virus).

While this virus may not be any more deadly than the regular flu, it hits a different group. The elderly population doesn't get as sick with it as do children and pregnant women.

I have read the same information that cehymas states--it's affecting a different demographic group than the usual flu. It heavily hits pregnant, women and young children. Interestingly, it seems to not affect the elderly--apparently many of them have cross-immunity from earlier swine flu strains that were around previously. btw, there's an interview with the head of CDC that talks about alot of this. You could probably Google it--I'm not computer savvy enough to link it here.
For those who've already had the swine flu, you don't NEED the vaccine--you've already built the immunities. The swine flu is another flu strain, and therefore the vaccine is like other flu shots--if you've had them and don't have a problem with them, you'll be fine with this one.
I try to get flu vaccines whenever I can because of all the traveling I do--I don't have any problems with flu vaccines, and I really hate to get the flu. I already got the regular flu vaccine, but I think I'll be gone by the time the vaccine for swine flu is released, at least here in the US. Not sure how available it will be in Asia.

We will not be getting it at our house. My husband and I were having a big debate about it. He wanted it and I DID NOT! He was worried about our little girls getting, as am I, but it really scares me. Not enough info on it.

I looked into it and didnt like what I was reading and hearing. He finally read and watched enough about it that he is ok not getting the shots now. Whew, its a relief for me.

I think it is up to everyone what they think is best for them. As long as you do the research on it. And prayer is a good way to reach a decision as well.

It does scare me. And I do think the media is making a bigger deal out of it then it really is. BUT I am doing all I can to keep it away from our house.

I don't think the Media is making a big deal out of this one (and I am generally anti-media). But then, I'm seeing the detrimental effects of H1N1 first hand.

I did get the annual flu vaccination.

As of today, I don't plan to get the H1N1 vaccination. I haven't been convinced yet. (I remember the swine flu vaccinations in the 70's)

People are in a state of panic over H1N1. I do think that everybody needs to listen to the recommendations to not go to your doctor or the ER when you have flu symptoms. The ER in the hospital where I work is being bombarded by people with flu symptoms and after they are seen by the doctor they are being sent home. By going to the doctor/ER they are exposing people who have weakened immune systems, babies, etc. to the flu.

The best thing to do would be to call your doctor and ask what she/he recommends you do about the vaccination.

I don't mean that you should never go to the your doctor/ER with flu symptoms. I think you should call your doctor first to see if she/he recommends that you be seen. Especially, if the symptoms aren't easing like they should.

The doctors around here are saying they will NOT vaccinate healthy children and adults unless they have special conditions. Pregnant women get it first.

A lot of people are running around calling "Swine flu" but no one has been tested. There is a fast result test they do but it only tells you that you have a strain of Influenza A but to get a definitive Swine Flu diagnosis, they have to send the test out and it takes about a week to come back, or something like that.

We aren't getting vaccinated, never do except DH because he works in a hospital. Will be interesting to see how much the flu cycles around the schools this winter when it's too cold to go out for recess and the kids are locked up all day.

it is not IF you get it, it is WHEN. I work in very close quarters and school, well things spread faster than wild fire. my kids both get the flu shot, I have had a reaction to it in the past.

I think it is a personal decision to make, my friend thinks her 4 yr has it. and now the other 2 are sick. her sick child was the one who was sick last.

I do know once you have it you won't get it again unless the virus mutates.

We just found out ds has the flu type A - which I guess they have figured out that 90% of the people who have type A end up having h1n1. So they didn't do further lab work - just told us to treat the symptoms. ds is pretty miserable. I think I will be vaccinating the rest of our family if the rest of us don't come down with it. Our doctor says that she has only seen 1 adult in the last month and that was a 21 year old with the type A flu. Half of her patient load has been for the flu. So I am hoping dh and I stay healthy so we can take care of the rest of the kiddos if they get it. Ds's school has had many many cases, so I am starting not to panic about it so much. I am just HOPING there aren't complications with ds. grrrr. On that happy note =), have a WONDERFUL wednesday =).

I just tested positive for Type A - they gave my Tamaflu just to be safe that it did not get worse and hopefully get it under control and not have it spread to our household of kids.

The thing my dr told us to watch in the kids is - major acheyness (is that a word, lol) tight chest and trouble breathing. I went in because I felt like I was not getting enough oxygen - even though I could breath and did not have any congestion.

They gave me a shot of steroids and within an hour I felt sooooo much better. Still sore muscles and a sick tummy - but I could totally feel a difference in the oxygen in take.

There have been years we have received the flu shot and years we have not --- we can totally tell the difference. We were hit with stomach flu and colds so we haven't been well enough until now to get it - and now everyone is out of the regular shot until next week!

So far, so good here. We are all healthy. I am stuffing my kids with vitamins and reminding them daily about handwashing and not sharing food or water bottles at school.

I am just praying no one here gets it as I cannot afford vaccinations--they are free through our dr. but the dr. is 6 hours away and our new insurance (Kaiser) doesn't pay in NM. The thought of having to make a 12-hour roundtrip to the dr. with a sick kid is not a pleasant one--especially since we'd be about as welcome as lepers with our family up there.
