Subject: The roller coaster ride we call motherhood

I was just wondering if anyone else feels like they're on a roller coaster ride all the time with their kids? You know the moods and feelings changing so quickly back and forth, up and down? The way your heart soars with excitement for them and then another one's challenges can make your heart plummet and break into pieces along with theirs! Whoever said being a mother was easy? A great blessing yes, but easy, no way! I'm sure no one ever dared say it was an easy role!!!!! Just some thoughts some of you may be able to share with me. I just keep telling myself to turn it over to the Lord and trust Him. Even though i want to know things right now and have everything neatly layed out, it just doesn't work that way-Does it?! Ok, now I'm rambling. Any thoughts out there? littlemom

I don't think it is just motherhood---it is life. Life is a big roller coaster filled with ups and downs but that is okay. As long as we are holding on to the rod and following the correct path we'll get through it just fine. Now that doesn't mean I haven't wanted to jump off the ride and go ride the merry go round for awhile or something but all the downs do work out. Just hard to remember when you are at the bottom of the hill looking up.

Wait... I thought I loved roller coasters???? :-) Actually, all of life seems to be like that sometimes. But just like the most amazing roller coaster ride ever! You have to endure the big drops before you get to the loop-the-loops! Seriously though, I think you are exactly right. We all go through the feelings of frustation, sadness, pain, tears, and challenge. But we also have so many joys with it. From the first steps, to the baptism, to the temple marriage. I wouldn't trade being a mom for anything! It has given me some of my greatest trials, but it has also given me more joy than anything else. Don't forget to take a little time out for yourself every now and than. It makes the ride a lot easier to handle! Sometimes, the hardest thing we do is realize that we can't do everything and He doesn't expect us to. We have to have enough faith to give it to Him. Just remember, in motherhood, even the laundry doesn't stay folded, let alone neatly layed out! (I am lucky if it is all done!)

I agree that motherhood is definitely a roller coaster ride! One thing I think we need to remember is that some of our kids will make some choices that we would not condone sometimes. This does not mean we are bad parents, any more than having a "good" child necessarily means we are good parents. All have their agency, and some seem to need to do things the hard way. I have several children, all different, but all precious to me and the Lord. And the ride is worth it!
