In 1910, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, joined by Columbia Records at the time, made its first commercial recording in the historic Salt Lake Tabernacle. Now, a century later, the Choir has become one of the most famous organizations in the world, having toured all around the globe and released more than 150 albums. 100: Celebrating a Century of Recording Excellence memorializes this milestone of 100 years of world-class recordings. This set contains the Choir's most requested songs. This also includes a bonus CD/DVD contains rarely heard archival audio, including the Choir's first ever recording in 1910. Also includes a video of the the Choir performing in the Holy Land, and rare footage of the Choir performing at the inaugural parade of President Ronald Reagan.
I purchased this for my husband for our anniversary. We listened to the entire set and it was so inspiring. I highly recommend this to everyone LDS or not.
I bought one for myself and two as gifts that I've given to family members. I absolutely love the Tabernacle Choir and have every album they've done. They're amazing! This new CD set is flawless and beautiful and needs to be in everyone's home to help calm people in this troubling time we live in. Their music takes you to a different world for a while where peace can be found again. I actually got to go see them last Friday night when they did their Pioneer Day Commemoration Concert. Wow! Talk about perfection! I had goosebumps the whole night.
I absolutely love this CD set. The selections are my all time favorites performed by the choir. Everything was so crystal clear. Listening to this wonderful music is very uplifting and the bonus tracks are exceptional. My thanks to the Tabernacle Choir for 100 amazing years of beautiful music!
Wow, what a treat. I thought it was so cool to hear the audio recording of the Choir from way back in 1910. I'm so glad they finally recorded "Danny Boy"! It is one of my all-time favorite songs the Choir sings!
Most of the tracks from this collection are from the Choir's back catalog, but it's handy to have them all in one place. The four new tracks are great, and the "bonus" disk is incredibly interesting, with all that old footage and the vintage recordings. Hearing Richard L. Evans's voice again giving a "Spoken Word" was wonderful. And what a surprise to hear how great the Choir sounded back in 1910!
This is an important milestone for the Choir, and I think the bonus CD/DVD is worth the price of the whole collection. Definitely worth owning.
I just bought this after anxiously waiting for it to come out for several months. For the most part it's pretty good. I like the newly recorded tracks. I especially love the one of "All People That on Earth Do Dwell." I love the sound of the Choir accompanied by organ and I've really missed hearing that. Hopefully future recordings will include a few choir and organ only tracks. It's a glorious sound and there's nothing quite like it.
I love the fact that while there are differences, the choir sounds largely the same from 1910 through 2010. It was fascinating to hear the early recordings. The video recordings were okay. But does there not exists a complete video recording of the Tabernacle Choir at President Reagan's inauguration? And the voice over in the one from 1962 really bugged me. The choir was glorious as always, but overshadowed by the unfortunate voice over. A whole vintage broadcast of Music and the Spoken Word would have been a great addition. But on the whole it was pretty good.
