Product Description

Before The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was officially organized, its keystone was in place. That keystone, the Book of Mormon, has been shared, studied, respected, and embraced by millions of people the world over. It has also been scrutinized, analyzed, dismissed, even ridiculed by critics for nearly 200 years.

In this volume, best-selling author Tad Callister offers a comprehensive overview of many of the critics' claims and provides carefully reasoned explanations that shed new light on the discussion. He presents compelling evidence, both physical and spiritual, for the authenticity of the Book of Mormon and invites readers on a spiritual journey that promises a witness stronger than any intellectual argument could create.

"The book focuses on a case for the Book of Mormon," Brother Callister writes, "but in one sense the Book of Mormon does not need a case presented on its behalf. It is its own best witness—its own best evidence. . . .It bears witness of the Savior with precision and power; and it invites the Spirit in unrestrained proportions. Every aspect of the Book of Mormon bears witness of its divine origin because, in fact, it is divinely inspired."

I love this book. For me it is one of the best books about the Book of Mormon. I especially appreciate the chapters which adress questions of the doctrine and pointing out doctrines which expand on the understanding of the Bible by other Christian denominations at the time of the Prophet Joseph Smith and at our time.

Faith promoting

Wonderful witness to the divine origin of the Book of Mormon and the Prophetic calling of Brother Joseph.

A case for the Book of Mormon

I initially thought I have a testimony by faith that the Book of Mormon is true but this was recommended by my sister-in-law. Just as Brother Callister’s other books, it was not disappointing. Not being aware of the many critics and their adverse opinions and arguments, they felt excessive to me but that is what the book’s about, those with little to no faith. I love page 35 and refer to it often. Heavenly Father ‘brought up’ a most extraordinary man to restore His church.

Being familiar with the other writings of Brother Callister, this book did not disappoint! At times we forget the critics of the book and their specious claims. Brother Callister, in his usual thorough way, makes them irrelevant. I never, ever, doubted the Book of Mormon, but sometimes we need to see the solid ground that it stands on now and we will see more proofs as more studies are completed.

Full of insights

I really enjoyed this book. I learned so much! The author provides a lot of information to "prove" that the Book of Mormon is true, but then he teaches the we do not really need to prove anything, the BOM is not on trial. We need to learn that it is true through study of the Book of Mormon and through prayer. I loved everything I learned- even though I felt like a few of the arguments would not be strong enough to convince the critics- the information was very informative and interesting. The book helped me build my testimony and feel even more grateful to have the sacred book. I would recommend this book to everyone.

Great book

This is well written and very helpful in adding to my testimony of the Book Of Mormon

I really enjoyed reading this book and learned much about the critics through the years that I didn't know about. This book was so well explained and researched. I have read the Infinite Atonement by Elder Callister three times and he is such a good writer and makes the subject so well understood. He also did an amazing job on "A Case for the Book of Mormon". Of course, I am one that thinks anyone who reads the Book of Mormon should believe it is true. The Spirit is in every word. It would be very good reading for the skeptics to see how crazy some of their problems with the book sound.

Tad Callister never disappoints.!! This wonderful book will prove to be very helpful to anyone who enjoys sharing their love for Jesus Christ, the Book of Mormon, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. A great book for future missionaries to study before entering the mission field.

By Far the Best Book of Mormon Testimonial I’ve Ever Read
By , Submitted on 2019-03-30

This is a simply book that provides deep insight for anyone wanting to further their testimony in the greatest book the world has ever known. Callister spends 3/4 of the book focusing on the scientific and geographic reasons whereas to why the Book of Mormon is true, and then he spends the final quarter showing why those reasons don’t even matter because true testimony always comes from Faith and God. It is truly one of a kind and a must read.

Interesting read but some things missing

I found this book interesting and spiritually powerful. I felt the spirit very strongly when he focused on the text of the Book of Mormon. However, I wasn’t so impressed with his logical arguments against the critics. From a logical view point I find the critics claims just as valid as his on the subject of plagiarism. For example, it is so hard to prove or disprove that Joseph used the story or “2000 hardy men” from the Last Battle. There just isn’t enough information to come to any certain conclusion. Furthermore while mentioning the popular books the critics use to prove plagiarism, Elder Callister fails to mention one, the Bible. How could Elder Callister miss that?? If Joseph used any book as a reference, wouldn’t it be the Bible? Because he doesn’t mention it, his claims don’t sound as convincing as they could have been. The absence of addressing this Bible theory, creates a gaping hole in this argument. For instance, he shares the challenge from Nibley on writing such a book. One of the points on page 35 is “There is to be no research of any kind.” Really? From a logical view point the Bible would be a very likely place Joseph would do his research.

Also I do not like the ongoing theme in the Church of making Joseph look as ignorant as possible. Joseph was bright. Do we really need to make Joseph look as dumb as possible in order to convince ourselves that the Book of Mormon is divine? I’m ok with saying Joseph was a genius. I believe he had a genius level IQ. Does that mean the Book of Mormon has to be fabricated or not divine? No!
Though, I disagree on some of the ways Elder Callister approached the critics, I believe it was a good attempt. For those members who are really bothered by the critics’ claims, this book may be very helpful.

I haven't even finished this wonderful book, but I am buying 6 more copies to give away. I love everything Brother Callister writes, but this one needs to be shared. Chapter 6, Divine Eloquence, is so profound. I have never seen anyone bring together a group of the inspired answers to life''s questions that are found in the Book of Mormon to so clearly demonstrate that it is truly "God given" as well as that Joseph Smith could not have written it. I often pray to be led to books that will strengthen my testimony and guide me in how to help my nonmember and less active friends and family. This one checks all the boxes.

I had heard a great talk from BYU that Elder Callister gave on this subject, so I was very interested in reading this book. At first, I thought he was mostly just repeating that talk (which was good!), but as the book progressed, I found that it was much more extensive and profound. I felt the Spirit testify of the truth and importance of the Book of Mormon for our day. It inspired me to work harder to share this great gift with all the world!

I guess I misunderstood the purpose of the book, I was hoping for more insight on the teachings in the Book Mormon. I do not need another defense of the book. I was familiar with almost everything in the book from other sources. It was only interesting at best.

Excellent book!! This book makes total sense!!! Tad Callister, in his usual style, brings to light some excellent points about the Book of Mormon and why it is the most perfect book on the earth! I would highly recommend this book to anyone seeking a firm(er) testimony of the Book of Mormon!!!

REALLY GOOD!

I really enjoyed this book. The Book of Mormon has had many attacks and many people trying to prove that it was made up and that Joseph Smith wasn't a prophet and didn't translate anything. What I really appreciate about this book, is that a leader in The Church gives examples of proof that it wasn't made up, that Joseph Smith DID translate the Book of Mormon and how we can use the power of that knowledge to increase our testimony and live our lives faithfully. I really really liked this book!

Love what he teaches us about Isaiah, Mark

It was awesome to find out the real location of Hill Cumorah!!! I won't ruin it for you, but you may be surprised. I'm headed to upstate NY with my metal detector this summer!

Why Did I Buy 6 Copies?
By , Submitted on 2019-03-07

I gave one copy to Jack Welch who is cited in the book, another to Neal Rappleye (also cited), and a third to the library at Book of Mormon Central (frequently cited). Two went to friends and one to my personal library. I am headed down to buy more copies for family members. The Book of Mormon is that important and Elder Callister's book is that good.

Well research and beautifully written

Callister has a gift for eloquent writing that touches the soul. It was a great remember to me of the power and divinity of the Book of Mormon!

Well-worth Reading, Powerful!

I could not wait each day to return to this book. It was excellent! It flowed in a very logical and well-thought out manner.

Although Brother Callister shared many physical and intellectual evidences of the Book of Mormon - he continually emphasized the primary evidence has to be spiritual. Otherwise our foundation is on the sand rather than the rock.
