Lord Strapshire is the most-eligible bachelor in town, and he has set his sights on the lovely Bianca Davidson. It’s too bad that Bianca finds him to be an insufferable boor. In order to deflect his attention, Bianca plans to ask Mathew Hensley to pretend to court her. The problem is, Bianca hasn’t spoken to Mr. Hensley since they were both involved in a particularly embarrassing incident years before. But he owes her a favor, and Mr. Hensley might be Bianca’s only hope.
I loved all the angles of the storyline! I loved that the past and present came together in a beautiful way and ended up healing the past! The characters are really life like! I wish there were more mini novelettes of this Regency romantic nature out there available! Thank you Josi for creating this wonderful mini novelette!!
Bianca is being pursued by Lord Strapshire and, even though he's handsome and highly desirable, she wants nothing to do with him. Her mother is determined that she is his perfect match. She becomes desperate enough that she comes up with a plan to ask her neighbor, Mathew Hensley, to act as though he's courting her since he owes her a favor stemming from "The Incident" many years ago. And that's when the fun begins!
This was a fun, quick read! It's short so can be read in one sitting, and I felt like it was a complete story (although I would have loved for this one to be longer as well). I loved getting to know Bianca and Mathew and watching their relationship develop. It takes a while before we get the details of "The Incident," but we know it was enough to make them uncomfortable around each other. This was enjoyable from beginning to end and, of course, I love that it's clean so I can easily recommend it to anyone that enjoys regency!
I received a copy for an honest review. My opinion is 100% my own.
This is a fun novella that carries you along with Bianca as she attempts to control the direction her life is to take. Josi has a knack for developing characters and making the reader feel that they are a part of their lives. It is a perfect read for anyone who wants to escape into a lighthearted story for just a while, and come out smiling! I enjoyed it thoroughly!!
This novella is a keeper, quick and satisfying! Many surprises, smiles, and giggles await the reader as they follow Bianca through one disaster after another.
I love that Shadow Mountain's Proper Romance line has had a few novellas come out this year as well as the full-length romances. This is one of those. I like novellas because they are quick, easy reads. I think it took me a total of about an hour to read this whole book.
Bianca is a great character in this book. I love that she knows her own mind, and in a time when young women didn't have a whole lot of choice as to what happened in their lives, she chooses to make her own way and let her mother know that her way is how it is going to be.
I also liked Matthew. He is a neighbor of Bianca's who owes her a favor because of something that happened in their youth. She feels that she can go to him and ask him to help her get rid of Lord Strapshire so that she won't have to marry the man. He is a true gentleman and agrees to help her immediately. But neither of them plans on what happens next.
This is a cute, clean, satisfying novella. A happy way to spend an afternoon!
I was sent an e-copy of this novella in exchange for an honest review.
I just read two stories in a row by Josi Kilpack and I am very happy! She is an talented author who has well developed plots and stories. This book is a novella, but had enough of a story line that I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
My favorite part of the book is the truth that just because someone is good looking and popular doesn't make them a good match. Bianca is tired of Lord Strapshire's attention. He is a bore who only thinks of himself. She hatches a plan with her neighbor, who owes her a favor, to pretend as if they are courting.
The dynamics between Bianca and Mathew are wonderful. You have to wonder why they didn't figure this out a long time ago. There is an "incident" that is referred to several times as a reason that they parted avoided each other. Their reactions to the "incident" are comical and add a to the story.
This is a novella, it doesn't take much time to read. For the short amount of time invested it is a wonderful story. I came away satisfied and ready to read more stories written by Josi.
Have you ever noticed that sometimes the really popular, good-looking people become less so, when you get to know them and they're totally a fop? That's exactly what happens in A Lady's Favor. Lord Strapshire is very conceited and is determined to win Bianca over. She can't stand him and devises a brilliant plan to dissuade him. She decides to ask her neighbor, Mathew, to court her until Strapshire disappears.
I love a little mystery in a story and "the Incident" is referred to in a vague way many times. It isn't until later on in the story when that embarrassing encounter is revealed in full--an encounter involving Bianca and Mathew and which is the reason why they haven't spoken in years. I also love a good, clean romance, emerging feelings, and encounters that leave me flying through the pages--desperately wanting to see what happens, but not wanting it to end. This is a short and satisfying read!
Content: mild romance. Clean!
