Product Description

President Gordon B. Hinckley has said: “Even though some of you may be fully occupied with families and have little time for other things at this stage of your lives, you can enlarge you minds and broaden your understanding through the reading of good books. . . . You may think you are too busy. Ten or fifteen minutes a day with the scriptures, and particularly with the Book of Mormon, can give you marvelous understanding of the power of the Almighty for the blessing of His children.”

Likewise, the prophet has counseled members of the Church to read the Book of Mormon together as families. The Book of Mormon for Latter-day Saint Families, like its predecessor The New Testament for Latter-day Saint Families, is a valuable tool for parents and children who wish to follow this counsel.

This beautifully bound book contains the full text of the Book of Mormon in large type and an easy-to-read design. In the footnotes of this indispensable volume, hard-to-understand words are defined in simple terms, important concepts are explained and developed, and questions to ponder and discuss are asked of young readers. Beautiful, full-color illustrations and paintings — some of which have never been in print before — by Clark Kelley Price, Robert Barrett, Scott Snow, Del Parson, Garry Kapp, Ted Henninger, and Tom Lovell accent the text.

The Book of Mormon for Latter-day Saint Families is a keepsake that all families will cherish. And by reading this book of scripture together, every family will be blessed and drawn closer to the Lord Jesus Christ.

"...These books contain resources that are helpful when reading scriptures with younger children (approximately ages two to ten years). Book and chapter headings differ from those included in the official Latter-day Saint scriptures, but they still include an overview of the selection that follows. Often these headings include "suggestions of important things to look for to give purpose to family members' reading" (Book of Mormon, p. x). Parents can use the headings to provide an overview of the chapter or book in easy-to-understand language for their younger children. The suggestions of things to look for provide something for younger children to focus on as they read or listen."

Amazing scripture study.....Poor binding
By , Submitted on 2018-11-26

I bought these books several years ago when they first came out. I highly recommend this to anyone who has ever struggled with "how to ponder" especially with children. This explains words and gives questions for discussion. We have read each of them several times. Each time we learn more. HOWEVER...The binding on the books is poor. I thought that with each year, they would fix this issue but I see they haven't. My kids were pre-teen when we first got they knew how to take care of scriptures. At first the outside binding started separating from the inside pages, then the pages themselves have begun to loosen. We read almost every day.

Fantastic contents, terrible binding

I love this version of the Book of Mormon--the enlarged print and explanations at the bottom of each page make it much more approachable to children. That said, I'm extremely disappointed with the binding. Even though our book is in otherwise perfect condition, the binding has come entirely apart (it's cheap glue-in binding). For the weight of the book, and the use it will likely receive in families, the publisher should use a binding process that will last more than a few years!

We love this Book of Mormon edition. We use it to prepare our children the year before they are baptized. It really helps them to begin understanding the Book of Mormon. The picture, the definitions, the questions, etc, all help us to really dig into the Book of Mormon. This edition is a family favorite!

eBook version review

This is my review for the eBook version.
We recieved the Hardcover version as a wedding gift and we found it very resourceful and great for family scripture study. However after 9 years, binding became loose and some pages have fallen out. So I purchased the eBook version but I was rather disappointed.
Contents are the same but Scripture and Notes sections are separated as different "chapters" and they are not integrated. There are no links to the Notes from scripture section so navigating through to find an appropriate note is very troublesome and destruct from actual scripture study.
Unless they update it with direct links to notes and or side-by-side view, I would NOT recommend the eBook version.

Family unifier

We read this with my 5 and 2 year old during breakfast every morning and they love pulling it out and putting it away every single time because it feels like a huge treasure to them filled with answer, facts, and extra picture

Poor binding

LOVE the book, but the binding started coming apart only months after we bought it. Maybe it was a weakness in only mine, but for how much we spent on it, I was a little disappointed. We can't stop reading out of it because of the great pictures and the help that it gives in helping my young children understand the scriptures!

Wonderful Book, Not-So-Great Binding
By , Submitted on 2015-02-25

Having this edition of the Book of Mormon has truly blessed our family as we read it every single night with our young children. It was given to us as a wedding gift, and we've only actively used it on a daily basis the last 3 years with our children. We hadn't even read it cover to cover and the binding had fallen apart, and a good chunk of pages fell out. I only wish we could have it fixed or replaced. I wish the binding was sewn instead of glued together. Other than that, the pictures quotes from General Authorities, and other learning tools are wonderful.

Personal Study or Conversation Starter - Great Coffee Table Book
By , Submitted on 2015-02-25

As a home that is constantly trying to add new ways to keep the Spirit alive and family motivated to read the Book Of Mormon, this book fits into our way of life well. I keep it on the Coffee table. It has started conversation from non-members as well as been a great reminder to turn off the TV and read on a daily basis.

It has large print so it is easy to read for older adults as well as youth. The photos are bright and appealing to the eye.

It has a wonderful thick cover that will wear well even with lots of use.

Wonderful book, but not well bound

I agree with the positive comments that everyone has given. Notice though, that a couple people said that they "have been through" more than one book, ie, the binding is weak and these books do not withstand the amount of handling they receive. Every family I know who uses this book with their families regularly thoroughly enjoys the book, but the binding has given out.

This version has made it more fun for my children to look at, while I read it to them. They love the pictures! They are still too young to really understand the stories, but I am able to read it more, with them, and have the blessings of reading the scriptures, twice, daily! I hope to have all of my family and friends have the same book!

A life changing book for me and my sons
By , Submitted on 2015-02-25

As a single mom who had fallen away from the church, it finally took the missionaries and some dedicated church members, nearly 2 years ago, to inspire me to start reading The Book of Mormon with my 2 young sons. It was a huge leap of faith for me because at that time in my life I wasn't sure I even believed in a God anymore. We started reading from the original blue Book of Mormon that the church puts out and committed to reading a chapter each night. Although I had read The Book of Mormon in the past, I found I now had the hardest time not only comprehending the teachings myself, because of the knowledge I had lost, but an even harder time trying to put it into terms in which my sons could understand. As a result, over time, we lost interest in our daily reading regimen. Last year, my new home teachers surprised us with "The Book of Mormon for Latter-Day Saint Families", and it has truly transformed our lives! Me and my sons get excited to follow along with the stories, look at the pictures and read the notes at the bottom of the page which help expand on the teachings, explaining things we never understood before. We can not only follow along SO much better, but we now actually comprehend the teachings and the history of the people! Anytime there are things we read which we aren't sure on the meaning of, we can look at the detailed footnotes and definitions at the bottom of the page which make it SO convenient, especially when dealing with the attention span of a 7 and 8 year old and trying to keep them attentive during reading. I am learning things I NEVER knew or understood before, even though I had been previously raised in the church. Our reading has gone so well with this new book we have finally made it to the book of Third Nephi which was perfect timing given the recent celebration of the Easter holiday, allowing us to read of Christ's resurrection, bringing a special new meaning of the true spirit of Easter for my broken little family. Where once I had lost my testimony, I have found it again stronger than ever! I have been able to help be an example to my sons and help teach them the principles in this book that will help them build foundations for good in their own lives. I wish every investigator of the church, convert or struggling member could have the chance to receive one of these books as I WILL change their lives forever!

We love reading our scriptures this way! We have bought them for all of our siblings when they get married. And so many of them have told us how much they love them as well! It is a great way to read the scriptures as a family!

Your family will better understand the Book of Mormon
By , Submitted on 2015-02-25

This Book of Mormon has changed our lives. Our family of eight had read the Book of Mormon once, then we bought this as our reward. The reward we received wasn't the beautiful book with definitions for all those words that your kids and you say, "what does that mean", but the enhancement of our nightly reading and understanding, and the desire that our family has to read it every night. I promise you ,it will help your families understanding and increase the knowledge your kids have of all the stories in the Book of Mormon. Best book I have ever bought in my life.A treasure in our home. Beautiful pictures, with titles before every six verses or so explaining who's talking to who and what to listen for. Fabulous, don't hesitate!!!

Every LDS family should have one!

This was the key to making family scripture study work well in our family. Not only does our 2 and 8 year old enjoy using all the helps, pictures and large print, even mum and dad love it. Everybody who has seen our Book Of Mormon sitting on the kitchen table has gone and got one too. We live in Australia and have since purchased the Old and New Testament and Church History too.

Little ones are drawn to the artwork

I have a very active 2 year old grandson who wanted to sit down with this book and just look at all the pictures. It became apparent that he was looking for all the pictures of Jesus. He found many. It was a heartwarming experience.
