Product Description

Is there something you’ve always wanted to do but have been afraid to try? Everyone has unique talents and abilities, and the Lord can use each one, no matter how random it may be. In this inspiring talk, Eric D. Richards shares a message that will motivate listeners to develop their talents so they can bless the lives of others. He says, “The Lord wants us to light the flame of our talent and place it on a candle and then invite the Lord to put it on a candlestick so it can give light to another person’s life. As others look at us and see our good works, they will want to give glory to their Heavenly Father.” With stories from the lives of outstanding Latter-day Saints who have “let their lights shine,” Brother Richards illustrates this message: “Your ability is God’s gift to you. What you do with it is your gift to God. You may feel invisible or inferior, but you are invaluable to Him. Discover your gifts, let them shine, and watch how the Lord uses your talents to bless others around you.”

Brother Richards teaches in ways that are humorous and engaging. He is a master teacher, one who truly speaks to the hearts of those before him, relating with his audience, and brings about a desire to change and grow. 'Are You a Bushel or a Candlestick?' has changed the way I view my own unique talents and has pushed me to share and to look for the unique talents within others. This was a fabulous talk! It is both spiritually motivating and funny. I shared it with my 2 teenage children and they sat thoroughly engaged the whole time. I love that Eric encourages kids how to date properly, to look for opportunities to reach out and serve, as well as share their talents and gain missionary experiences at the same time. Wonderfully done! I think I'll share it with the youth in my ward at a fireside. I look forward to more talks published by Brother Richards!!

I listened to this CD with my kids and it was amazing! I felt truly inspired and ready to go and make some permanent changes in my life! Brother Richards has such a way of taking a subject and bringing it to life with humor and inspiration. While he geared his message towards the youth, I felt like I could really connect with his examples and humor. He was aptly able to urge us to develop our talents and help those around us at the same time. We are reminded of the Lord's hand in our lives. Bravo Brother Richards! I recommend this to anyone who wants to be inspired! It's especially great for families to listen to together.

I loved this talk on CD and plan on using it in seminary. It is one of those talks that the youth can enjoy listening to and they don't even realize that they are learning a principle - they just know that they want to be a better person ! ..........

Most excellent!!

So well done! Eric is masterful at helping each of us see the power in our talents. What we may see as mundane or commonplace, the Lord will use to work miracles--if we're willing! Eric's humor and spiritual insights are spot-on to engage the generations of today. Love it!! When can we hear more??

This talk is perfect for the car. Slide it in the c.d. player as you are taking youth to and from school. Put it the player and listen on a longer trip, We've laughed and we've cried and we remember what our abilities are and then work better to serve the Lord.

As soon as, "Are You a Bushel or a Candlestick?" came out, I had to have it. Brother Eric D. Richards did an amazing job. He was both exciting and moving. He gave us fascinating details about how to let our light shine always. I felt as if I was right there listening to him and living his experiences. This is a CD that I can listen to over and over again. My teenage nieces loved it. Their comments where, "mmhhhh... I never thought about life that way...." I'm so grateful to have youth speakers that can relate to the youth and reach them in a level that sometimes parents struggle to. Thank you for this great talk. Look forward to more

Just what I needed to hear

This is a wonderful talk to the youth about developing their talents. I really enjoyed how Brother Richards focused on "small talents" we all have rather than the obvious big talents that so many think of when talking about talents. He helps the youth to see that they can take whatever talent they have, however small, and find a way to bless the lives of others. I love the way he relates to the youth. He teaches truth, while adding in some humor, which keeps the youth engaged. Great talk!

My 15 year old son and I listened to Eric D. Richards CD, "Are you a Bushel or a Candlestick" in the car. Brother Richards is a fantastic speaker! His energetic testimony and genuine love for the gospel sucked us right in. We didn't want to get out of the car when we reached our destination because we wanted to keep listening. I seriously could listen to him speak all day.
Brother Richards has a way of speaking to the youth as though he is talking to each one individually. My son likes the way he talks about things from everyday life. How he compares them to gospel principles and how the little things we do can help spread the gospel.
As a seminary teacher/mom, I hung on every word. I found myself thinking about the talents that the Lord has given me and asking myself; "How am I using them to bring others closer to our Savior Jesus Christ?"
I truly feel uplifted by Brother Richards' words and I am inspired to do more and to let my light shine brighter as a candlestick!!
This CD will definitely be a staple in our car to listen to over and over again.

Brother Richards has a unique approach of presenting the Gospel in a way that is so relatable to the Youth of the Church! He reminds us all how simple, yet important, it is to let our talents be used in whatever way we can to be instruments in our Heavenly Father's great Plan of Happiness. This talk will be one that we listen to over and over again! Thanks for your inspiring testimony.

How can I glorify God?
By , Submitted on 2015-10-08

I loved this CD! It has motivated me to ask a simple question in all my daily choices... "How can I glorify God in my endeavors?" It isn't that difficult to do but it can make a HUGE difference to those who look toward the light of our candle as well as bringing greater fulfillment in our own lives.

After retrieving our CD from the mail then while driving in the car we listened to and thoroughly enjoyed this CD 'Are You a Bushel or a Candlestick?' by Eric Richards! We were so engaged, as we arrived at our destination we just sat in the car and did not want to get out! How exciting to hear a new voice Full of energy, integrity and truth , but most importantly filled with the Spirit! I love his enthusiasm and the Love you feel through his Teachings, Humor and Counsel! I had to share with my Seminary Class the direct but kind and loving counsel (in track 9) straight from the Lord especially for them, by one of his noble servants. Such inspiration!
