Love it!

I absolutely love this CD. I listen to The Choir when I need comfort, peace, excitement, energy, to feel the Spirit, to pass time and just about anytime.
As a member of a high school madrigal group, a band member, ward choir member, choral group and car soloist, I enjoyed every note of this CD.
I believe I was given the gift to appreciate music that praises our Savior and our Father. You just have to be grateful for the talents shared by all who performed for this recording. It will comfort your heart, calm your worries and energize your soul! Love it love it love it!

Nice, but not my favorite CD
By , Submitted on 2019-07-11

I was really excited to get this CD but was somewhat disappointed. Most of the songs are good and I like them, but my all time favorite song to sing is "Let Us All Press On". Unfortunately the iconic alto part on the chorus was not used - not even for one verse! That part is the best alto part in the whole hymnbook. I've noticed the Mac Wilberg does this with the alto lines sometimes. His arrangement of "The Lord is My Shepherd" (not on this CD) totally ignores Thomas Koschat's melody line, which is the alto line for at least half of the song. That is another absolutely gorgeous moving alto line. He replaced it with the sopranos singing the not-so-exciting high single note harmony line for most verses. Why can't he at least do the typical melody/harmonies on one verse/chorus? He also adjusted the melody on "Have I done any good", but that one isn't quite as egregious. I still find I want to sing the hymnbook version when I'm singing along. On some of the quieter parts the orchestra overpowers the choir, but that is a common occurrence, particularly on Music and the Spoken Word. But with that being said, I'm still glad I bought this and added it to my collection of choir CDs. (My ultimate favorite CDs are "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing" and "Sing Choirs of Angels".)

This group of hymns was all I could have asked for. I learned the alto part to this hymn by singing with my father in beautiful tenor. Thank you so very much for this CD.

"Our Prayer to Thee" is my least favorite of the songs.
I can see why it was included but I enjoyed all of the
rest very much. I played it over and over while recuperating
from surgery. It certainly helped my soul!!!!!!!!

I have always love to listen to the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square. All the songs are inspiring and peaceful to my mind and soul. Again I love it.

My new favorite CD!

This is now my very favorite CD! I have played it over and over at home and in my car. "Let Us All Press On!" reminds me of President Nelson's closing remarks at his first General Conference as Prophet. I love the words so much, I memorized them. "Brightly Beams Our Father's Mercy" is one of my favorite hymns, but we never sing it at church because it is written for men's voices. I am so happy it is on this CD. I love, love, love the Tabernacle Choir. Thank you for this beautiful CD!

Each piece of music has had its place and meaning for different aspects of my life., which has been helpful in uplifting and strengthening.
I’m always playing this cd.

While listening to this CD I keep getting drawn back to the most recent conferences, all of this music feels familiar and generates that same feeling that we felt during the conferences. All the big finale pieces are on there, so uplifting and inspiring. They almost sound different. Exciting times and this CD reflects it.

Please return to the Pre Wilberg choir

Although I love Brother Wilber's orchestral arrangments, I don't like the direction the choir has followed in the past couple of decades. The choir is capable of much more. There is way too much singing in unison under Brother Wilberg; and the words -- esepcially from the women -- have become mushed -- so much so that without already being familiar with them, you can't understand them -- even with excellent hearing. Beyond that, the orchestra nearly always overpowers the choir. I have sung nearly all my life, and my high school choir director was a former assistant director for the Tabernacle Choir. He always instructed us that instruments are more powerful than human voices and should typically be subordinate in a choral work. Brother Wilberg has obviously not learned this. I was really excited when the Orchastra at Temple Square was formed because of the opportunities I thought it would provide to enrich the audience's choral experience, but I have been greatly disappointed over the years to see Brother Wilberg's orchestral arrangments take precedence nearly all of the time. Please fix this!

The digital download is very complicated on a Mac computer. Mac owners are better off to buy the CD

Love the new direction of the choir and the new sound. You can actually hear most of the words on this album. It is a very beautiful and inspiring album.
