Tell Me the Stories of Jesus
This album features singer/songwriter Kristen Nelson on simple, guitar-driven arrangements of beloved Primary songs. Kristen's career as a musician has given her an instinct for storytelling and evocative lyrics, and she brings those sensibilities to these beautiful and well-known Primary songs. Stylistically she introduces elements of folk legends Bob Dylan and Joan Baez, but she brings her own unique voice and approach to these songs.

When my wife said I should order this, I rolled my eyes. She'd heard it was good. I ordered it, really, because I knew if I didn't she would, and I knew if she did, she'd leave with a full cart. Imagine my surprise and relief to find a refreshingly clean, stripped-down version of some of the songs of my childhood, instead of the over-produced quasipop stuff out there. It's honestly so good. The singer has soul. She doesn't inject the false emotion and dynamics that are so common on these kinds of albums. It's really just great music.
My kids love it. I thought it might be a little old for them, since it's not in the bouncy, happy style where you hear the smile on the singer's face. But they listen to it any time we're in the car and they know all the words, even to the obscure verses I never knew existed.
I almost gave this 3 or 4 stars because of the process of getting it. I ordered the CD version just before the mp3 was available. When I found out about the mp3 version, I tried to change my order and was told I could not because it had already shipped. Reasonable, right? Well, 3 weeks later, I still hadn't received it (if you're all out and waiting for another shipment, just tell me) and the tracking status was some vague term that could have meant anywhere in the process. It was clearly worth the wait, but wow.
